Tom Llamas, 45, takes over this summer, while Holt, after ten years anchoring Nightly News, heads to anchor "Dateline": https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-a ... ghtly-news
It became kind of a parlor game guessing who might succeed Holt: Hallie Jackson? Peter Alexander? Kristen Welker? Tom Costello? Katy Tur? Willie Giest? Jose Diaz-Belart? Kate Snow? Gabe Gutierrez? Until the last day of 2023, correspondent Miguel Almaguer got the lead story and traveled the world for NBC, appearing nearly every night. He has essentially disappeared after NBC suspended him for a minor factual error.
The NBC brass had to be careful not to appoint as NBC Nightly News anchor someone with an especially strong presence on the far more liberal MSNBC sister network.
Llamas is a solid choice. He was the weekend anchor of "ABC World News Tonight" for seven years.
