If I'm not mistaken, '23 and '24 ST numbers for the Cards were actually very good. I even think they had the best record in one of those seasons....so....

As the minor leaguers move to their camp, and more of the regulars get their work in, we’ll know better.

Lol, Jake Woodford.

That’s an org with no pulse on talent evaluation.

Good point. But even then, it’s still just practice games.

Been following the Cards since the days of Boyer, Flood, and White...spring training games and results are simply meaningless.
That's not to say that if a player goes 1-40 at the plate we can't be concerned...but...actuall won/loss records mean nothing. Never have and never will.

Yeah, why do they even bother with the regular season?

Spring training results provide confirmation bias and that’s about it. If you think a team is going to be bad, and the results aren’t there in spring, it’s “See? I told you they’d suck!” If you think they’re going to be bad and they win spring games, it’s “They don’t matter, it’s spring training.” And vice versa.

Agreed, it is still spring training. But performance does matter. If a guy is struggling in the spring then he's probably going to struggle for real, unless he's working on a certain aspect of his game. When these guys are playing to make the club though, that's not their focus.

I’m sure there is an abundance of evidence supporting both positions. I doubt either is overwhelming

In the grapefruit league, the Cardinals are 8-10
The third place team is 8-7.
I wouldn’t interpret any of this to mean anything.
