#STLCards LHP Quinn Mathews, the Minor League Pitching Prospect of 2024, has been reassigned to Minor League camp, manager Oli Marmol said. He will do his work on the back fields today and work with the MiLB squad so that he can stay on schedule and start every five days

so boring. Why does Oli pull this (bleep) not only in a season where the kids are supposed to play but even in ST when the games don't count and top prospects are supposed to play on Televised games?

Frustrating to not have given him at least another start or two.

I'm guessing this decision came from above Marmol.

ROTFLMFAO. You think this was OLI’s call/decision? That’s WAY above his pay grade.

I agree. I'm not sure what the plan is for Mathews. Are the Cardinals being to restrictive with him? He's not exactly a youngster, so to speak. It looks to me like he is simply blocked, right now, by some bloated contracts.

There’s no reason to. They need to use those starts for guys competing for major league jobs.

Bu11 (bleep). We still have no names with zero chance like svanson and 29 yo C Taylor getting innings yesterday.
And Matthews absolutely has a chance to see the MLB this season, maybe even before the break. That's what competing is supposed to look like.

Perhaps you misunderstood?
Mathews is in no way part of early season plans, and shouldn’t be, so there’s no justifiable reason to have him take appearances meaninglessly from other pitchers whose future is less certain.
Mathews is and was always ticketed for AAA.

He's only 24 years old... far too young to bring up

He's 24, and at least 2 of our rotation will be hurt or prove ineffective by the end of April, so he certainly should be part of our early season contingency plans, therefore indicating futher evaluation in spring games. A 22 yo Tink Hence with limited innings the past 2 years should be the one with no MLB plans whatsoever.

I said plans, not contingency plans. You’re now inserting variables, including a guarantee of at least 2 of their opening day rotation members being injured before May.
Where do dragons and unicorns fit in? If we’re just making scenarios up…

He had one decent start in AAA. It’s reasonable to want to see some success there before putting him in the major league rotation.
Who are you putting him in front of, Pallante or McGreevy?
