Alas, Uncle Bill's Pancake House, We Knew You Well

Post by Pink Freud »

So sorry to see on Facebook the end is near. I lived nearby, on "the Hill" for ten years, so it was a favorite morning haunt, especially after (ahem) stayovers.

Odd how a place that sold tons of eggs and coffee had only one tiny men's restroom stall, resulting in 60 years of "Hey, pal...are you almost through in there??!".

I've only been back to St. Louis twice, for 2 days each, in the last 22 years: Has that neighborhood, which I always liked, gotten worse?

I can't count the number of late night visits to Uncle Bill's, always getting corned bash and eggs - the best. At least the West County location is still openj

Thanks, Ed. A thread is never complete until you chime in with your asinine and brainless comments. Why not pour yourself a tall wood alcohol and tonic and kick back.

The neighborhood is doing very well. The owners just want to retire. Something will come into that spot. It might be a totally different kind of restaurant or something else, but it won't stay empty for long.

We've tried to go there a few times since covid and the line was always too long. The night I met my wife we went for a late dinner and talked for hours at Uncle Bills.

What? Did you get fired from your dishwashing job for masturbating in cold storage?

Both of you were chain-smoking no doubt. When I first moved here in '08 I went with a few colleagues and was impressed with how a crowd of repulsive diners managed to turn the place into a virtual ashtray. How appetizing that was!

Its not the neighborhood, its their prices

Back in the day, it was a cheap place to go

Now, my parents took our 4 yr old on the last day. Behind her in a picture a sign said 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 pancakes for like $14...thats insane

For that price there are a lot better places for breakfast (first watch, rooster, etc)

You cant serve basic breakfast for high end prices.

That is absolutely incorrect. We put our cigarettes out to eat.
