What a legend. There was never a time when the guy didn't make me laugh.

He was, indeed, a minimalist master.

Really, really old farts from St. Louis in the '60s will recall when his "Newhart" co-star, St. Louisan Mary Frann, was America's Junior Miss, and then was KSDK-Ch. 5's "weather girl".

"The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart" were two of the funniest shows on television.
Both had great casts and memorable characters.
Condolences.

I saw her at a Gallagher show at the Fox Theatre back in the 1980s.
She was standing by herself out in the lobby. She was stunning. Got up the nerve to say hi and told her I was a fan of the show (Newhart).
She was very nice and thanked me. Can't remember what else I said -- couldn't believe she was talking to me.

Very sad indeed, he was fantastic!

Remember when “Hi Bob” was a drinking game?

Newhart had the greatest ending in the history of a network television series and there will never be a close second. Glad it took place in that day and age bc today it would have leaked on Twitter six weeks before airing.

RIP. Legend.

So sad to hear this, just finished reading an article about him. Did not know he had never won an Emmy until 2013. How is that possible? He did steal every scene he was in when guest starring on Big Bang so it's no surprise he won one.

I remember as a kid listening to my father's album, The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, his amazingly successful first album. It spent 14 weeks at #1 on Billboard charts and won a Grammy as Album of the Year and won Newhart the Best New Artist Grammy. The album title came from the record company. Newhart's first choice was "The Most Celebrated New Comedian Since Atilla the Hun". That became the album's subtitle.

His style - the one-sided conversation was unique and hilarious Here's his idea for a documentary about driving instructors.

His shows saved network tv from being trash. Sure, at the time we did not know how bad those shows generally were, but looking back on decades of TV there are not a lot of gems..

My brother-in-law Darrell does a “ bit” from Newhart:

hi I’m Darrell. This is my brother-in-law Roy. This is my other brother-in-law Roy.”

Darrell has two brother-in-law‘s named Roy.

We re-watched the final Newhart Friday night along with a few other select episodes. Man, the thing about great writing is that it just holds up. And when you couple that with A list actors, you have timeless entertainment.
