A's have picked a site for move to Las Vegas

Post by rockondlouie »

Bally's Tropicana site is rumored to be where they'd build the new stadium.

Need an accepted bid from Bally's + public/private financing deal + MLB approval for the move.

But it appears the A's are closer than ever to moving to Las Vegas and joining the Raiders as former Oakland teams to relocate to Nevada.

Just saw that. First the Raiders, now the A's. Sucks to be an Oakland sports fan right now.

The Giants and 49ners are still on the bay.

I mean it's like the Rams leaving and there still being a team in St Charles.

I thought the A's were building that waterfront ballpark district? That fell through already?

Not sure if many hardcore Raider fans will switch to the Niners -- no matter how close the cities are.

Congrats to the A’s
You don't see any public-financed stadiums in California.

The evolution of baseball and gambling....

1919 Black Sox and players like Hal Chase induce MLB to create the position of commissioner to combat gambling. Several players banned.

1947 - Leo Durocher suspended for a year for "moral shortcomings" including gambling debts and associating with known gamblers

1989 - Pete Rose banned for life for gambling on his team.

2021 -- MLB adds Ballys to sports betting partnerships that includes an expanded relationship with DraftKings.

TBD -- Oakand moves to Las Vegas

Not only did they lose the Raiders to Las Vegas the Warriors also moved out of Oakland and into San Francisco. So in a matter of a few years they could lose all 3 of their major league clubs.

Just think, they could put slot machines at the entrance of the park, at the concession stands while you are waiting in line, in the bathrooms as you... Maybe Bally's would build the park for them so the could own the gambling concessions and include a walkway to the big casino.

I knew it was coming but I thought it would be an expansion team.

I don't see the advantage in clinging to old associations. If your wife leaves you are you gonna refuse to date an equally attractive woman who lives down the street?

It's either the 9'ers or Raider fans can pound sand.

I don't know, but since the Rams moved, I've been rooting for the Chiefs. I've also taken up rooting for whoever plays the Rams, which is almost as much fun. So I'm flexible.

Don't think anyone will lose much sleep if old Raider fans want to pout about it. They're only hurting themselves.
