You guys are arguing as if the Cardinals aren’t completely revamping their player development strategy. Considering you can’t even acknowledge that, there’s nothing to discuss here.
Gorman has over 1500 PAs & Walker over 1000.
At what point are they beyond the ‘development’ stage?
I likened it to a cat with 9 lives.
JJ obviously has 9 lives.
Scott maybe 5 or 6.
Gorman and Walker maybe 1-1.5
All four might be in the 2026 OD lineup. They all have varying lengths of rope...
Bump.
Let's put it in perspective. We have no idea who Bloom will trade, trade for, and pick up in FA.
There is no reason to have any angst about NG/JW's place on the team on October 28th.
BUT, if both are on the team, see my above post. Both of those guys are on serious notice. AND, Bloom has been here 2 years and has deep knowledge of both.
Now my thoughts:
1. Walker. Huge disappointment. But if he's a platoon OFer in 2026, who cares?
2. Gorman: In 2026, had a .755 OPS as late as 8/26. Carried a 11.7 BB rate the whole year.
What is the big deal with keeping both?
LOL, this should not be the most important conversation of 2026. It should be trading Gray, NA, WC, mabye BD and AB. And signing starters and maybe a corner OFer.
Look at my post above. NG and JW both have very short leashes. Being concerned with them is a waste of time. If they suck, they will be bench players and maybe eventually traded...
Nothing wrong with keeping them both as long as you’re tanking to try lose. And where did bloom say they will both have very short leashes or are you making that up and who cares about his ops .755 in August so what? His ops was below .700 at the end of the season he can be good for a very short
Amount of time. Hey you want to see him have another sub .700 ops season good for you don’t try to convince me I should be happy about seeing another season of him sucking
My issue with Gorman is that he cannot field a position and has a bad back. His bat has the potential to be average. His wow factor is his power. His ow factor is his strikeouts.
My issue with Walker is that he cannot field a position and hasn't been able to hit in MLB or AAA. His wow factor is some really hard hit ground balls.
.257 .331 .414 .745 AAA 529 PA (an average AAA hitter has a .770 OPS)
.240 .302 .378 .680 MLB 1039 PA

We're going to see if:
JJ Wetherholt is what we think he is
Victor Scott II can become anything but an offensive liability
Nolan Gorman can play 3B and put the bat on the ball
Jordan Walker can be anything except the biggest mess in the National League
Kyle Leahy can handle a starters load
Ivan Herrera can be a major league catcher.
I know we're rebuilding and I think that is the right thing to do. I don't mind that they ask these questions. The problem comes when they ignore or deny the answers to the questions asked. Some of these questions have been asked and answered.
Some of those questions have been answered already bloom may just be too dumb to see it though and needs another year to see the glaringly obvious
OR
Bloom is smart and wants to see these guys with an offseason of more proper and directed development.
You’re calling Bloom dumb before he’s had a chance to do anything. Longer rope.
He could give them off-season of prep plus rebuild the roster with some badly needed experience and talent and still give these guys a chance to prove themselves and if they win the job, they win the job. But make them earn it instead of giving them 162 game tryouts yet again
I don’t get what he means by more proper and directed development when it’s the same hitting coach coming back who worked with him last off season and and season working with him again
Are you honestly saying that you’ve seen or heard no mention of their investments in player development and performance groups under Cerfolio?
You seem laser focused on the major league hitting coach. Player development is so much more than that position.
Yes he is the one who helped them last offseason and season and will do so again. You tell me who exactly is going to be helping them this offseason what great mystical gurus are going to be helping them?
I don’t know why you hate Bloom and you’re obviously holding back on the “why”.
There’s no reason for you to patronize me. I’m quite positive we shared similar opinions about how poorly the Cardinals had developed players, and in particular starting pitchers.
Now, you’re suddenly saying that improving that aspect of the organization is worthless and a waste of time.
What specifically about Chaim Bloom bothers you so much?

I don’t hate bloom but it will be dumb to bring back Gorman to suck for another season that’s all I’m saying. They are not going to coach him up and make him good. The scouting reports have always been there’s a lot of question about his swing and miss potential and they were right. He’s not going to be good he’s not he will suck at hitting he will suck at defense. Brown is the hitting coach who will be working with him again he couldn’t help him last season. You think he will be good next season I disagree he will do the same thing I said he would do the past season suck hot streak people swoon about how good he is and he figured it out suck again over all numbers will suck but you think he will be good and that’s fine

That’s definitely the tried and failed mo philosophy of waiting until they have zero value and wasting season after season watching them fail. I guess bloom will be mo the sequel
Um… what type of trade value would they even have right now? I don’t think you’re getting much in return for them.
Who is taking their place on the roster if they’re dumped, and how does it help the Cardinals future?

So again what specifically are these investments, performance groups…..whatever going to do to correct Gorman bailing out on every other pitch or Walker not being able to touch or lay off a slider??? The book is out on these 2 and they can’t adjust. Years have gone by with Cards instructors attempting to correct their swings…..Either they can’t or won’t listen. Some Bloom magic cures this?
Look… I understand that ozzie thinks Bloom is a bum, and you think there are players in the organization that are lost causes.
That’s fine. I don’t understand Ozzie’s position cause he won’t explain why he thinks Bloom sucks basically before he’s even started.
I think it’s good the team finally realized how far behind the market they’ve been in player development / instruction / tech and that they have people working to correct for that. What I don’t understand is why you’re so against it.
I never stated I’m against Bloom or all the new PD/Tech. My response to you was why give specifically Gorman and Walker anymore ML innings in a Cards uniform?? And if you think they can be resurrected……HOW?? As I said they have holes which have been attempted to be corrected and failed.

The “how” isn’t my job.
I think Bloom seeing if they can get these guys to the next level is easily defensible… power bats aren’t easy to find or develop. They’re not blocking anyone of note. They’re not competing in 2026.
Some Cardinals’ fans being “tired” of said players or opining that they “suck” isn’t a business justification to dump them right now. They’re not spending.

Your “rational thought” isn’t rational thought it’s hope and prayer. Your strategy is keep players that have proven they suck and hope and pray they miraculously get better lol hope and prayer is not a rational strategy I’m sorry to break that to you

Being obtuse isn’t a good look.
You’re argument is that Bloom shouldn’t try to help players get better and/or rebuild some value because <insert random fan> thinks players suck and are completely irredeemable.
Your approach is an irresponsible waste of assets and time. It’s senseless and lacks any rational thought.
It’s the same failed strategy mo had with Carlson and your argument to keep players who suck until they have no value is senseless and lacks rational thought. The only thing that you’re demonstrating is that you’re not paying attention to or following anything I’m saying.
I’ve been beating the player development drum for years. I’m happy they’re making efforts to course correct with urgency.

You can’t possibly disagree with that.
I’ve been saying it too about the development but some players suck and will suck no matter how good the development is you can’t possibly disagree with that

But in a rebuilding year? Who cares?
So what if NG and JW are on the roster to begin the season.
