Through 8 for San Diego, 104 pitches, still no hits.
It is in the bag. They've got Vilade in LF for defense.

Faced 28 hitters and threw 24 balls.
That is a great stat. Thanks.
ALMOST hard to believe that would be possible.

Martinez gives up a double off the wall ... no hitter gone !
Following the walk to open the inning , there are now runners on 2nd and 3rd .. no outs and Martinez is lifted from the game.
So no complete game and both runners on base are his earned runs if Padres score here.

Oli sucks for robbing this guy of a chance at a complete game.

First trip to Cleveland and seeing Progressive Field. It is a nice ballpark. Had a really good fireworks show after the game. Sonny was absolutely dealing! The guardians fans around us were even clapping for him at the end

An important postscript.
Sonny Gray said in a post game interview, the only time he shook Pages off all night long, was on the one hit that he gave up.
Pages called a great game. People need to stop taking pot shots at him. This guy plays.

Another good game I missed because of MLB greed and ignorance. July 4 is also on apple.

Since 2024 (when Gray signed with STL), 69 pitchers have at least 200 IP.
Among that group, Gray is 5th in xFIP and 9th in FIP and has delivered $50M in value in 260 IP.
But of course the Cards did not sign a real "ace". Just a guy who is 6th in MLB in wins (21-11) on a mediocre team.
