After his selection by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2014 NHL entry draft, Gustav Forsling's NHL rights were traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Adam Clendening on 29 January 2015.
On 11 May 2016, he signed a three-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. He made the Blackhawks' opening night roster to begin his first North American season in 2016–17. On 13 November, Forsling scored his first NHL goal in a 3–2 win against the Montreal Canadiens. He was later reassigned to AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs on 6 January 2017.
On 24 June 2019, Forsling was traded by the Blackhawks, along with Anton Forsberg to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Calvin de Haan and Aleksi Saarela. On 16 July, he was re-signed to a one-year contract by the Hurricanes. During the 2020 off-season, on 24 October 2020, Forsling signed a one-year contract with Carolina.
On 8 January 2021, Forsling was placed on waivers by the Hurricanes prior to the delayed 2020–21 season. The following day, he was subsequently claimed by the Florida Panthers. On 15 July, the Panthers signed Forsling to a three-year, $8 million contract extension.
On 7 March 2024, Forsling was signed to an eight-year, $46 million contract extension by the Panthers. Forsling earned his first Stanley Cup championship when the Panthers won the seventh game of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers on 24 June.
There are many AVERAGE GMs in the NHL. Doug Army is one of them. There are very few excellent GMs. Florida has one. As does Carolina and Dallas.
Average GMs are prone to yearly desperate moves to fix the whatever is the biggest hole on the roster that year. Their hallmark is also working on a problem for years without ever solving it (e.g. a 2C). They are also prone to handing out the biggest contracts to the most worthless talent, and this leads to trades where our compensation is nullifying Army's contract mistake.

His analytics were horrible in game one despite the nice play on the one goal. Both his Corsi and Fenwick numbers were the worst of all the players for both teams. He always came across to me as lacking hockey IQ.

How long do you believe Fowler will be with the team and high-caliber? Resigned? When retire? Just curious.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑22 May 2025 10:37 am Who cares about Mikkola the Blues have studs in Fowler and Broberg and I really like Tuckers game in the playoffs as a 3rd LHD. Nonesense post

I'd take a much younger and more talented Broberg over Niko Mikkola every day of the week.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑22 May 2025 10:37 am Who cares about Mikkola the Blues have studs in Fowler and Broberg and I really like Tuckers game in the playoffs as a 3rd LHD. Nonesense post
Re: Mikkola is the real boss
Yeah, again I’m not saying we blew it by trading him, just impressed by how he’s turned it up. I think Broberg can do that and some.

I was replying to someone else who mentioned us having Fowler, who I'd also take over Mikkola, and Broberg. In fact, if you look just above, you'll see the comment I replied to. You're welcome.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑22 May 2025 13:15 pmWho is saying Mikkola over Broberg? I believe no one. My thought fully is that Mikkola would have been homegrown talent. That can be the cheapest and most quantity-known type of player on the roster. Without a doubt, Mikkola could squeeze into our defense if we tried.
Florida management saw something that no one else did. Or maybe their style of play fits him better.
My main point is that people know all the things that can go wrong with a TOP5 pick, but they overlook the hell that arises with prospects like Mikkola. It takes years for them to develop, and by the time that they do, you have to move them out.

I was thinking that he was looking solid this post season also. Good for him.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑22 May 2025 13:34 pmAnother stellar Blues late round find for sure solid 2nd pair, 19 min guy

Dunn. Walman, Mikkola are all gone, yet the Blues current top-4 has no room [arguably] for more than one of them at most.
Why is Walman bouncing around the league? He's in his prime, could he not have anchored a top-4 spot in Detroit or San Jose for years, or is he suspect? As we've seen with Fowler it's hard to play to full potential on a dysfunctional team. Walman drew third pair minutes last night.

Why did we keep Perunovich for longer than Mikkola, and Walman? Perunovich has no value to any team.
The bottom line is that for every player that they give up too early, there are an equal number that they kept too long.
Blues scouting is making errors all over the place, and it is past time for accountability.
