MLB.com's new mock. Callis' turn this week.

Billy Carlson, SS, Corona HS (Calif)
Yeah, I hope this one doesn't happen
he hit for power in March, then fell off after that. Still hit over .300 on a national stage, the Defense is the best in class, the arm strength is best in class....and he did this on a team with the hardest HS schedule in the nation. I think they faced and beat 6 or 7 Top 25 teams in the nation this year. And he was the talk of the town that the North Carolina super invitational in April. Willits and Holliday became sexier picks...

@ #5, we hope we can do a bit better, but I wouldn't bemoan the pick either. The top of the draft is full of 50/80 graded college players at or near their ceiling, and 45-50/80 HS players near their floor still trying to identify their ceiling.

We as fans need to find a comfort zone with the picks...like 6-8 picks we'd live with...if you can narrow it down more, then go for it....but I don't think we can say like several of us did last year "Bazzana or Wetherholt".... then several of us said "Burns or Smith, need the FOTR"....it was usually 2 picks we could live with....it's not working out that way this season....too much muck, and the cream hasn't risen.

Pick your 6-8, you'll feel better once the draft commences
DeRosa liked Carlson a lot, FWIW. He did a segment on the kid a week or so ago.
I don't see XBH with him compared to Willits or Parker, or even the Aloy kid that was mentioned yesterday.

It's a tough draft for the prognosticators and the fans.
Agree with your 6-8 players.
A who's difficult to pass on list. vs a I want list.

reminder..... MLB Draft Combine starts Tuesday, June 17th-June 21st.

Top Prospect List of those attending....

https://www.mlb.com/news/2025-mlb-draft ... -prospects

I like that the CWS players not committed to the combine will be afforded a chance to attend a different showcase/event after the CWS

"Arizona outfielder Brendan Summerhill (No. 19) and shortstop Mason White (No. 138), Coastal Carolina catcher Caden Bodine (No. 38), Arkansas pitchers Zachary Root (No. 43) and Gage Wood (No. 50) and outfielder Charles Davalan (No. 55), LSU righty Anthony Eyanson (No. 66) and second baseman Daniel Dickinson (No. 72), and Oregon State outfielder Gavin Turley (No. 78) headline that group, which will have the opportunity to attend a similar supplemental event if they can’t attend the Combine."

Forbes, Lousville, wasn't listed above, I believe that was an innocent omission/mistake.

Keith Law's new mock

Eli Willits, SS, Ft.Cobb-Broxton HS (Okla.)

Law says the Cards would take any of his first 4 ahead of Willits, which includes Arquette, Doyle, Anderson, Holliday. He also says Witherspoon and Aloy (surprised by that one ~ College SS if we decide against a high school SS) could land at #5
bumps

I'm going to bump Renostl response to this mock, too....good response about Law.

I wonder what Law has heard, he has decent connections.

Aloy projections are similar to the Irish kid. They both have solid builds, will gain some power, and have very
good balance and weight shift at the plate. Something the bigger kids IMO are behind them on. Arquette and LaViolette.

This draft is wide open, partly due to my own ignorance on this group, I've been in Helena this year.
A player falling into the top of 2nd will not surprise me in the slightest. Such as Petry, Taylor, Conrad, Belyeu, or my bias
some of the bigger framed pitchers.
here it is.

Any one of Petry, Taylor, Conrad, Belyeu, the Vandy lead off man (name escapes me for some reason), the Other IU kid, too....Arkansas' Davalan...I'd take those at #55 2nd round

UCLA up 2-0 early....Murray State overmatched and just happy to be there? Or can they mount a come back?

It the variables in this draft plus the teams each doing
Their own strategies should create some solid entertainment

Think it's safe to say Anderson won't be available at 5.

IMO doubtful he'd be available even at #3

Justbaseball.com draft 2.0 w/Slot Value. This will have to be like last season's slot picks...none of them went for slot in the Top 5 picks, but they did set records for biggest contracts. Ironically, JJ went slot at #7

The talent nowhere near the caliber of last season. Can't imagine a world where one of these guys makes more than Condon and Burns

our pick in this draft.... Jamie Arnold, LHP, FSU

of the 3 college lefties, I like Arnold the least

The more I read about Jojo Parker the more I think he's a guy we should seriously consider.

What I would like to know more about with any of the top players is the intangibles .. Their effort, are they a team player first (and not a ME guy ),
For a 'bat' guy, does he hustle to first ? , how coachable is the kid , his work ethic (does he practice his fielding ? Nado sure did ) any anger management issues,

There are multiple things to judge besides just the numbers . Read several scouting reports that seem to focus on the numbers but not much on their intangibles.

70 grade bat sounds good to me
