Re: GDT : Cardinals vs Rays (3/29) ~ 1:15pm CDT
Those of you accepting Oli’s dumb lineups are missing the main reasons some of us don’t agree with them.
#1) - as to number of plate appearances. It’s true that Herrera will get more AB’s hitting 2nd, but how many more with runners in scoring position, and with how many outs?
If he hits 3rd or 4th, and he has guys with high OB%’s hitting in front of him, his RBI chances rise considerably! Basically, Herrera hitting 2nd right now, he’s the high base guy, waiting to be driven in by players not known for that.
#2) - dealing with Masyn Winn himself.
In his first full season, Masyn was rolling along with a .280+ batting average and an OB% over .350. Pretty much aligned with his minor league numbers. He then stated around mid August, he wanted to try hitting for more power! He didn’t really improve upon that, but his batting average dropped into the .250’s and his OB% to .300.
He started out last season trying to do the same thing and he sucked at it. Around the all-star break he stated he was going to change his approach again and just try and make good contact. Everything started rising again. His knee did hurt his over all numbers though.
Oli putting in the 4th spot has caused Winn to once again hunt home runs and when he does that, he’s not a very good hitter.
Masyn might actually be ok at the 4th spot if he just stayed within himself and use the whole field, but he’s not doing that. Masyn does have an ego and sometimes it works to his advantage, but when it comes to hitting. He wants to be another Witt, Tatis, Henderson, type of hitter, and he just isn’t that type to hit for power and sustain a good average.
#3) - the fact that Oli can’t recognize #1, and #2 tells you what you need to know about his managerial skills.
I actually think someone said it correctly, Oli just placating Masyn because he put JJ at leadoff.
Oli wanting to be these players good buddy is getting in the way of him being even a decent Manager!

The "great" Pages screwed that up, why is he even on the team?
Crooks needs to be here and playing so Bernal can catch FT at Memphis.

Games today are telling games. What kind of demeanor does this group have. How? Why?
Are you satisfied with 2 out of three, or are you a beast and want it all.

Shouldn't be catching on one knee with men on base.
And this inning is a microcosm of why Im not sold on Scott as the future in CF.

Scott is getting embarrassed in CF. On the flyball, he didn't come in aggressively ready to throw, and on the groundball, he cruised to the ball, and the hitter took 2B on him.
May is having a tough start.
