I agree with you. But still if we don’t get those generational, MVP candidate players on our roster then sooner or later we’re gonna start hearing that Winn has more value for a better team than he has on this team and that we should trade Winn for prospects, just like Donovan.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 19:46 pmYea but it’s silly to complain about Winn because he isn’t a generational player like Witt it’s crazy. I can see complaining about useless players like Gorman and walker but complaining about a gold glove shortstop is just strange. And again it’s weird to complain about Winn because he isn’t a generational talent destined for the HOF. I mean by that logic Donovan sucks because he’s not a generational player destined for the HOF but people are like we must keep him and build the team around him lol he has no power or speedCarp4Cy wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 19:40 pmIt’s fine if that’s who he is but as someone else mentioned we will need 3-4 other true power bats in the lineup, which we don’t have. And we lost our HR leaders from both 2024 and 2025.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 19:34 pmWho cares if he is not Witt level lol are people going to start threads complaining they have a problem with every cardinals player who is not Bobby Witt or Aaron judge level? It’s just very strange. “I have a problem with Winn because he’s not Bobby Witt level” lol that’s insane. Contreras wasn’t Pete Alonso level and gray wasn’t skubal level but you complained like crazy about them getting tradedCarp4Cy wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 19:27 pmThat’s still not Witt or EDLC level. Big gap between Winn and the top 3-5 modern SS’s. To be one you also have to have the health tool.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 14:36 pm He hit 15 homruns when he had two good knees in 2024 at age 22. With healthy knees next season I don’t see why he wouldn’t be able to hit 15-20 homruns every season when healthy which is pretty good for a gold glove short stop. He does need to learn to steal bases though
We aren’t going to truly become a top team with 9 average to slightly above average and sometimes hurt bats in our lineup. It takes a few elite bats And no holes.
And modern trend is for top power hitters to also be the top athlete on a team and play plus D position's like SS and CF. If we are trying to find elite power bats from other traditional positions the pools there are smaller than they used to be.
You're not wrong, anywhere there imo.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 19:40 pmIt’s fine if that’s who he is but as someone else mentioned we will need 3-4 other true power bats in the lineup, which we don’t have. You watch Witt defensively....he's really goodYouboughtit wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 14:31 pm As we all know there are 5 tools in baseball. Mason Winn will never be a top 10 SS because of his skill set is backwards. How I see his tools ranked 1-5 vs the superstar SS
Winn
Defense
Arm strength
Run
Hit for average
Hit for power
Top 5 SS tools (Henderson, Witt Jr, Lindor, Cruz, Seager)
Hit for Power
Hit for average
Run
Defense
Arm strength
Furthermore although he is a decent player it only works if there are 3-4 legit power bats to compensate.
Well said...this kid is smart with a good head on his shoulders...he also has that extra drive to succeed that some don't show..the kid wants it...everything I've read about him is he's a lot like mookie Betts...in that he's just good at everything he does....hes a winning ball player as they say....he will continue to improve on offense...16 to 20 hrs...275 to .285 with gg defense...yes he's not Bobby Witt Jr ...but if his body holds up ...he will have a nice career...him and jj could be really fun to watch up the middle here really soonHoosier59 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 17:58 pm Masyn has realized he can’t hunt homers, good sign of maturity on his part. He will still hit 15-20 of them, but with an average around .280. Every time he has hunted homers, his batting average has really suffered. He now knows that if he just uses the whole field, occasionally pitchers will try to come inside on him and that’s when he’ll make them pay! I expect him to have a good year in ‘26. Hopefully his knee gives him no more trouble.
Of course, he plays both sides of the ball.imyourhuckleberry wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 20:29 pm A healthy Masyn Winn is at least a GG finalist every season, gets on base at a .333 clip, hits 15-20 HRs, steals 20+ bases and, hopefully, is a stabilizing presence and becomes a clubhouse leader as he matures. While not an offensive world beater, with his glove he doesn't have to be. It's incumbent on the team to put offense around him. If those numbers a 8th best on the team, that will be a pretty (drat) good team.
Of course it's health dependent, as can be said about every player in every sport.
Assuming they're confident in his recovery from surgery, I'd have zero issues if he's the first guy they singed long term when the new CBA is finalized. [For the record, I'd have no problem if they did it sooner, but I don't think they're going to extend anyone before the new CBA is in place.]

You may want to check out Night School?Youboughtit wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 15:06 pmAnd you think that is a top 5-10 SS and perineal all star potential? Or just a VG player? Asking because some on this site think he is a future superstar. To me a superstar is a future HOF caliber playerOzziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026 14:36 pm He hit 15 homruns when he had two good knees in 2024 at age 22.
