rockondlouie wrote: 28 Dec 2025 10:57 am Rumors are pretty strong C. Bloom is holding out for a righthanded, power hitting OF prospect for Donny (re: M's).

Likely why it's taking a bit longer to deal him but he should be in no hurry.
doesn't the kid from the M's system have like a ~40% k rate in the mid minors? can't remember the name

imo, doesn't sound like a 'get' to me
High Risk/But High Reward?

Could be the best they get for Donny.
then keep Donny
I wonder if they would and extend him if Bloom can't get his asking price?
absolutely should. he has more proven value than a lottery ticket or a whiff machine
He'll bring back way more than a lottery ticket prospect.

The rumored M's prospect is Lazaro Montes (another LHHer),here's the scouting report:

Montes' loudest tool is still his top-of-the-scale raw power from the left side of the plate, and he's continuing to learn how to get to that pop consistently in games. He has outstanding bat speed with plenty of loft in his swing to drive the ball in the air, and he can regularly register elite-level exit velocities. There is some swing-and-miss to his game and there will always be strikeouts, but he also draws walks (14.4 percent walk rate in 2024) as he's learning to find better pitches to hit. He models his game after and is often compared to fellow Cuban Yordan Alvarez.
40% swing and miss in the mid minors is more than 'some'
You skipped over his walk rate which would lead to a higher OB%.

Why can't he improve his contact rate as he progresses?

Developing prospect w/power comped to Alvarez, I'll take him!
He could improve his contact rate as he progresses- we've just seen what happens when they don't.
I get it (N. Gorman) but that's apples to oranges.

I'd definitely take a shot on a power hitting OFer prospect in a Donny trade.
I get that you would take a shot with him, and I'm not saying I would be unwilling. You say it's apples to oranges, I'm not sure what you mean by that. I do know that both have a ton of power, both have a ton of swing and miss, and both have open questions about which one of those traits will overtake the other.

I mean because "we've just seen what happens when they don't" doesn't mean that will happen w/Montes.

Given his strong walk rate that tells me he's got a good eye meaning he could improve on his contact rate.

Probably won't happen anyway, doubt the M's give him up for Donny.

Agree. That doesn't mean it will happen with Montes. I'm just saying we have seen how ugly that is when it doesn't work and what it means to the team. It shows that it doesn't always work out and can leave you a little more apprehensive.
