Young, cost and years controlled w/upside
That's an interesting suggestion. It just seems Burleson has been much more consistent than Liberatore has been.
Libby just turned 26 years old, it seems to take (most) young lefty starters a bit more time before they figure things out.
He only made 53 MLB starts, hopefully he has more upside.
And for the record Burly has just begun to "figure things out" himself the past two years after struggling in 2022 & 2023:
Here’s Burleson’s wRC+ in the majors courtesy of Bernie, year by year:
* 2022: 56, or 44 percent below league average offensively.
* 2023: 89, or 11% below league average.
* 2024: 106, or 6% above league average.
* 2025: 124, which is 24% above league average for offense
I've read that the Cardinals might be shopping Burleson. I realize many on CT aren't as high as I am on Burly. But, if I were Bloom, I'd have to get a top of the rotation, young starting pitcher for Burleson. I'll say it again, Burly has made good progress and is just coming into his prime.

The Cards should encourage any team to come to them with any idea, or question they have about any player. They can always say no. This is another thing that has been undone for years. Many reporters have said that the Cardinals only reached out to certain teams and often didn't return calls from teams. Whether you strike a deal or not, this is one way of evaluating players on this team and others. How do people from the outside view your players?

I think Goold reported that Bloom prefers not to deal Hererra and Burly, I told you once before he likes their hitter profile.
But it would have to be a Godfather offer, one he couldn't refuse, for him to deal Burly (IMO).

I know you asked about a Cardinals pitcher, but... a pitcher with approximately the same value as Burleson on a team that would actually trade him, and would actually love to have Burleson, is Noah Cameron from Kansas City.
I might take that, but why was he a 26 yo rookie? Late bloomer? Injury history?

He's not special in any way. He is a high-floor, low-ceiling player who performed very well this season. Perhaps a left-handed McGreevy type.

I guess that begs a question - should we collect more "not special" SPs who do perform well for a while at least, like McGreevey, and like Pallante and Dakota were in their first 1-2 years? Or more Flaherty/Wacha types who have all the stuff but make can't quite get it together consistently and stay healthy? And how does Bloom even project a player like either category?

Even up. If the pitcher was on another team. Just gauging the caliber of pitcher Bloom would need to get for Burly. With the rebuild it would likely need to be a pitcher with some years of team control. Like Liberatore or McGreevy.
The question is moot. Alec Burleson is a generational talent set to transform this franchise. There is simply no trade return that can equal Alec Burleson's value. After we get rid of that Contreras slug Burleson will become a Gold Glove, Silver Slugger 1B with a .350/.450/.550 line. If the Cardinals would let Burleson pitch he could approach Skubal's level. Shohei who? Enjoy your last MVP, sucker.
He is not the American Ohtani. Generational talent?

I needed one. Exaggeration

Current Cardinal pitchers I would trade Burleson straight up to acquire:
Liam Doyle
Michael McGreevy
Quinn Mathews
The Cards don't have much "can't miss" pitching in their pipeline. They have a few guys who might make it though.
