bluetunehead wrote: 24 Oct 2025 10:12 am This is a pretty wild overreaction for games in October. Just take a look around the league. Last night alone:

Ducks 7 - Bruins 5
Penguins 5 - Panthers 3
Islanders 7 - Red Wings 2
Sharks 6 - Rangers 5
Oilers 6 - Habs 5

This is October hockey in a nutshell. Teams have not gelled yet. Defense is sloppy everywhere. It takes a few weeks to get the kinks ironed out. I know it's frustrating to watch but the Blues are not alone.

Tampa Bay is 1-4-2
Boston is 3-6-0
Florida is 4-5-0
Minnesota is 3-4-1
Dallas and Toronto are both 3-3-1

Anaheim, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and the Islanders all are in playoff spots right now. Those teams finished 23, 24, 25, 27, and 31 in the league last year.

Teams are going to regress to the mean in time.
So let me get this straight, the bad teams can play good but the good teams have to gel?

Look I am by no means a doom and gloomer but these people are professionals and make millions of dollars to play hockey… what I’ve been watching competitive hockey games.

I just expect better out of this team than what they’ve shown and I can surely say they’ve been pretty awful to watch…

I just want to see a hard working/competitive team and that’s not unreasonable to ask

Mailloux obviously was by the organization because they didn’t ask for more than just him straight up for Bolduc. It’s not an unreasonable take. Keep lookin through those rose colored glasses of yours though. How long do we wait? 40 games? A year?
First boldface: How do you know?
Second boldface: How old was 55 when he debuted? Petro full time? Jackman?

Just from this thread, which you started, all your quotes:

I mean you would think after having a full off season with Monty the team would be better than they were playing towards the end?!?

Honestly I don’t think losing any of the players we lost would help this team…

We know now Hofer is trash and is not a 1b…

This team has looked uninspired for most this season. Really tough for me to tune in every night and watch this brand of hockey

Is monty’s seat getting warm?

Honestly there is no excuse for how this team has looked at home or just period. Losing the players that we had last year should not have affected this team like this.

Hell Connor McDavid wouldn’t help this team right now.

I am not calling our record a train wreck
5-0 wild
8-3 blackhawks
7-4 mammoth
That is a train wreck not competitive at all

Armstrong of course. It's his team, his vision. Post cup, he's been very questionable on having the pulse of his team and exhibiting the coherency of a clear direction. We went from a team built around big mobile defense with an absolute true #1 cornerstone to a middling D corps with no cornerstone and only Parayko left who resembles that old philosophy. The forwards outside of Thomas and Kyrou are nothing special. Holloway and Snuggerud have shown flashes and are probably good pieces to have moving forward. I like Neighbors game a great deal too but we shipped off a kid that showed both skill and scrappiness in Bolduc in yet another desperate and misguided attempt to patch up this mess of a D corps. The pro scouts who have been targeting D and or Army need serious re-evaluation.

That is kind of the point for me, we shouldn't be one of those teams that is comfortable falling behind, we should be one of those teams coming out hungry with something to prove.

I don't think all is lost but I do think this start is worse than it should have been and I think a lot of the reasons for that are self inflicted.

Hey Tampa,
I apologize for coming across as a jerk. That was not my intention.
You are a good poster who deserves respect.
My mistake.

Who is ultimately to blame for what’s going on?

What is the issue?

This team has looked uninspired for most this season. Really tough for me to tune in every night and watch this brand of hockey
The team is struggling (wildly inconsistent) out of the gate. That is all. There is an old adage " things are never as bad or good as they seem [in the moment]". This is ikely true in the Blues case both at the team and player level.

Things that should be that aren't:
1. Hofer
2. Top players scoring
3. Consistent effort
4. Power play efficiency

Things that could be that haven't been:
1. Tucker-Mailloux viability as a 3rd pairing
2. Sunny (they needed him)
3. Chemistry with new players (including Snuggerud)
4. Getting the true talent fully deployed on the power play
5. Mailloux, in general
People are going to make this a bigger issue than it is as it happened to start the season. Had this rough stretch happened end of November the panic would not be there from the fanbase.

Every team goes through rough stretches. They just hit there at the beginning. If they go 4-1-0 over the next five the panic will disappear. They will be fine at the end of the year and a real threat for a deep playoff run.

Hofer is the only real concern now. There is something wrong there.

We have a couple posters who take joy in watching the team fail. They will go to the doom and gloom to laugh at everyone’s reactions.

I know it’s early.. I really do live my blues… I wasn’t a huge fan of the Bolduc trade as I was a big fan and almost bought his jersey. Just not happy with the start of this team and the hype surrounded around plus us making the playoffs to see this team lose games like this is a kick in the junk

All good, just a passionate fan. I honestly just want to see a competitive game. I apologize as well
