Can we even imagine a universe where Nootbaar is still a Cardinal next spring?
Not me.
But I also think trading Donovan would be nuts.

You're used to a FO with bad talent evaluation. Of course Bloom would know the return very well before a Donovan trade is made.
very very VERY true. sickeningly true.

Dear Mr. Bloom,
I would like to offer to drive Lars Nootbaar to the airport.
Sincerely,
sdaltons
Sdaltons,
Thank you for your gracious offer. We are always seeking ways to reduce our expenditures. Since the air control towers are undermanned currently, would you be willing to drive Lars or any other player we trade to either the train station or Greyhound bus depot ?
Sincerely,
Mr. Chaim Bloom

I disagree. If this is a rebuild, Donovan is exactly the kind of player they should be looking to trade now.

PS. Mr. DeWitt informed me that to compensate you for fuel that he would give you two top row complimentary seats in the right field upper deck foul pole area.

For me, how Bloom handles the Donovan situation will be the litmus test for his ability to build a WINNING roster. Donovan is a player that's value can't be determined solely on his metrics/stats. He is the type of player that the old regime didn't value enough. Donovan is a winner, I believe he would thrive in the post-season!!! If we deal him, the haul would need to be substantial
My prediction is that most Card fans will be disappointed in the return for Noot. I think there are a lot of Noot's out there already on rosters . He's a JAG (just another guy)
A winning culture for 2026 is clearly not Bloom's priority, so they might as well get BD out of here while he still has trade value.
But I agree, it will be one of Bloom's most significant opportunities to prove that something has changed in this club.

I can see there is definitely two opposing sides on this issue. I’m on the side of keeping Donnie, but I could see moving him if the return was overwhelmingly in favor of what the Cardinals currently need. Top tier Starting pitching, and/or a middle of the order right hand hitting outfielder. I’m of the view, you won’t get either of those for Donnie alone, so how much more would it take adding to a deal to get a deal like that done? That’s where you have to be careful, because, I also believe that Donnie brings more to the team than just his stats. Disagree if you want, but every team needs a player like him, but how much will they be willing to pay to get him?
If you aren’t going to get a reasonably known commodity for him, then I’d rather trade someone else for players that you are just hoping that turn out to be good! I think some of you proposing to trade Donnie kinda agree with this, but there are those here that would have traded Pujols, Musial, Gibson, Ozzie, and Brock just to see what kind of a return they would have garnered. And before some idiot jumps in here, in no way am I comparing Donnie to any of those players!

According to arenado back in may they haven’t had a winning culture in a couple of years anyway so it’s not like losing Donovan will hurt the losing culture more

He’s almost 30…..with arbitration an option….and free agency looming
not the kind of guy that is usually a component of a rebuild..
and all his “leadership skills” lead the the team to fifth place, six games under…
Of course they should trade him..

Wait a minute. At the press conference with DeWitt I heard Bloom said no shortcuts. Now he wants to trade Donovan?
Of course. He’s not a tent pole player.

It’s cringey how ppl want to keep him.
“Wait! Donovan is good!”
Right, so was Jeff Samardizija in 2014. In fact, JS was really good when traded: 2.83 ERA over 17 starts.
Bloom should 100% trade BD this offseason unless he’s getting absolutely lowballed. Which I doubt he will.

Acting like these 2 are some great trade commodity is a bit much
Donny is a really good ball player who could fit a role with some great bats around him but he’s not a game changer
And Noot is a JAG……his hype has passed and should’ve been traded the season that WBC was all the rage.

Donovan won’t get you the next skenes.
But he might get you a future MOTR arm.

Personally I think the best time to have traded Donovan was the prior off season. The two teams heavily interested, Seattle and the Yankees have mostly moved on. The Dodgers now may be the best trade place for him. In fact Nootbaar and Donovan both fit there. Both players are complimentary players and that is the role that the Dodgers are looking for the next few years to go with Betts, Freeman and Ohtani. Asking for a top 50 prospect in Quintero and a pitching prospect like River Ryan would be reasonable for both.
Quintero is a right handed bat who just turned 20 and at age 19 more than held his own in A and high A this year hitting 293 with an ops of 923 with 19 home runs and 47 stolen bases who could develop into a plus defender in centerfield. He has a plus arm that also plays in right field.
Ryan coming into this year was the a top 5 prospect for the Dodgers but had TJ surgery in July 2024 but should be fully ready in 2026.Before the injury he was ticketed for their starting rotation. If healthy and he returns to form you are getting a controllable number 2 or 3 starter.
