You Burleson bashers that criticize Burleson's lack of home runs. Do you realize Contreras has never had a 25 HR MLB season? His tops was 24 in 2019. And Contreras has never had as high as a .290 BA for a season like Burleson just had. Also, Burleson might well end up with more RBIs per season than Contreras when their careers end.
contreras should also be a #5 or #6 hitter and he was paid for catcher production --- another Moronzelak mistake. Contreras is not who you should be comparing burly too, that/those player or players aren't on the team yet hopefully.
Why not compare Burleson and Contreras? They both play first base. Burleson compares, favorably, to Contreras as a hitter and, defensively, at 1B. And Burleson is much younger and cheaper, right now. I like having Contreras on the team. I just can't understand the constant Burleson criticism. And hardly any criticism of Contreras. And their production is about the same, overall. And Burleson seems more durable.
no..."overall" Willson's production wasn't "about the same, overall"....20 HR > 18 HR ; 70 Runs > 54 Runs ; 80 RBI > 69 RBI..... Contreras did all this while playing 5 less games?
Regression of Burleson heading into your "Made up Prime"
I repeat. Some here just can't give up trying to rationalize how wrong they have been on Burleson for a long time. Funny how they can't equate the production/salary factor when comparing Burleson and Contreras.
wrong? we tell you he would be a good 6th or 7th place hitter --- you decide it should now be about who is more cost efficient? traffic cone is a really good description of Burly. He is gonna be a good mlb player who will have to play on a mediocre to bad team because he doesn't have a position to play defensively that really correlates to what his offensive production is going to be.

Regression heading into your "Made up Prime"
That's bogus. If you want to play that game. Contreras had had his share of regression seasons. Time on the DL should also be factored in. As he's done the last twoseasons. Burleson will quite likely make you foolish again.
When has Burleson ever made me look foolish? He hit, I never said he couldn't hit. I said he wouldn't be much unless he fixed his near league worst chase rate, he improved it enough to play more once people got injured in 2025 ....good for him, I even said so.
I refuted your claims with your Racist Friend...Gary that Burleson will be "doubles machine", your claims that Burleson "could play 2B b/c he was athletic, b/c he pitched in College"....that was day you learned he was LH

. Then you amended he "could be a speedster like Edman, b/c, again, he pitched in College"....that was the day you learned he was over 230lbs, and a 35/80 rated runner, which is molasses slow. Then you claimed Burleson compared to Gwynn and then Votto at the plate, which every one refuted. You claimed time and again he was fine on Defense in the OF and 1B, when the Metrics said he was far from "fine"....granted he was slightly below average at 1B this time, but well behind Contreras.
You NEED antagonist on Burleson...you create this scenario so you don't feel lonely? I don't know....stop moving goal posts and stories....it's too neurotic for Cards Talk.
Regression heading into your Made up Prime...that's NOT good

Hitting:
Contreras: 124 wRC+, 122 OPS+
Burleson: 124 wRC+, 125 OPS+
Fielding at 1B:
Contreras: 1,011.2 IP, -1 DRS, 6 OAA, 4 FRV
Burleson: 356.1 IP, -3 DRS, 0 OAA, -1 FRV
In Burleson's BEST season, it was a push offensively, and Contreras was the better defensive 1B.
I'll ask again: do you
ever get
anything right?

For those forum members who may be unfamiliar with Shady's usual goalpost-shifting and fact-free horsesh*t, a brief primer:
Shady: "Burleson is the next Tony Gwynn." "Burleson is the next Joey Votto." (Actual quotes)
CardsTalk consensus: Burleson is a one-dimensional player who could be a decent bench bat and/or role player on the low end, with a ceiling of a low-end starter, which has value as long as he is cost-controlled/pre-arb.
Reality: At age 26, Tony Gwynn posted 6.2 fWAR, and Joey Votto posted 6.9 fWAR. By contrast, in his
best season so far, Burleson is on pace for approx. 1.8-2.0 fWAR, and has averaged 0.45 fWAR/150 games played. Fangraphs defines a “role player” as 1-2 fWAR, and a “solid starter” as 2-3 fWAR. So once again, the many posters who said Burleson could be a good role player or even low-end starter were
much closer to being “right” than Shady (“the next Tony Gwynn /Joey Votto”). Please keep this in mind whenever Shady gaslights the forum with another one of his dishonest victory laps.

Craviduce is a great poster and should never get in the weeds criticizing another poster. He's too good for that. Doesn't need to lower himself. NY is a different breed. He's a "look at me" "put down others" contrarian.

Showing up with a “smarter than thou attitude”? Wow, Cranny—coming from you, that’s about as rich as it gets.
But by all means, carry on with your notorious condescending lectures to other posters about how they can’t intelligently comment on various topics because they don’t have your (alleged) resume, experience, credentials, etc.
