I want Bloom to change managers in 2026. I think we need a fresh approach. But unlike many CTers, I don't think 99% of the issues on the 2025 team are a result of Marmol's mismanagement.
Joe Girardi? That's the name you pull out to make some ridiculous statement? That guy hasn't managed in 3 years.
Pretty sure Matheny and Shildt were grilled on here as well. Were you making similar threads then?
If you have been around long enough, you will know exactly why he used Girardi as an example/comp.
I had a notion why.
Why?
Because he has been out of baseball for years. Its a random choice.
You’re grasping for straws.
He was a manager as recent as 2022.
Out of the game for 3 years. Why not compare him to Ozzie Guillen? Similar resume and out of the game for a while.
3 years and 13 years are a big difference.
Try again….
Both won WS. And Guillen arguably got more out of his rosters. Hes still close to the game. And relatively young.
Cool dude.
How does that support your assertion?

No assertion. Im asking a question that you are avoiding. Simply pointing out Guillen's time away from the game is not an answer. He and Girardi are one year apart in age. Have similar resumes. And both have been away from the game. Guillen is probably the better manager. So why not use Guillen as a comparison?

If Girardi were manager I suspect this team would be over .500. But play your fantasy games all you want.
Of course you do, you dont have a clue as to what youre talking about.
I suppose I don't, because it's ecleme22's fantasy, not mine. I'm just trying to inject some reality into it.
Reality is that Girardi isn't a good manager and there is no way in hell hed have this group of misfits over .500.
Girardi is a former Manager of the Year and World Champion. Still a lot better than Marmol.
BFD, Ned Yost won a WS too and hes an awful manager as well. You dont have a [fork]ing clue as to what youre talking about.

Girardi was mentioned on here as a possible replacement for Shildt 4 years ago. Nobody has been talking about him since. And I mentioned a guy with an almost identical resume, age, and availability. But you contradict your own reasoning. If 4 years is ok, why isn't 13? Especially when there is so little difference in age and resume?

False narrative.
Not one person believes 99% of the issues are a result of Marmot's incompetence.
But that is in no way relevant to the question as to whether he is a good manager.
He is not.

Girardi was the manager of the Phillies when Shildt was fired. Okay, bud?
I recall some chatter about Girardi on CT in 2023. But of course not right after Shildt was fired. Get your facts right.

How about this - you seem to believe that if Joe Girardi was the manager, and had the exact same record as Marmol has this year, that Cardinal fans would be thrilled?
Is that the point are you trying to make?
Or do you even have a point other than “Girardi managed as recently as 2022”?

Why not use Girardi?
He’s only been away from the game 3+ years, was a WS champ and team leader.
Why shouldn’t Girardi be used in this example?
Just a random guy to use since he's been out a while.
3 1/2 years isn’t a while.
Girardi has been talked about on this forum a lot in the past.
Your attempt to come up with a better option was Guillen? A guy who last managed in Obama’s first term. Lol
Girardi was the manager of the Phillies when Shildt was fired. Okay, bud?
I recall some chatter about Girardi on CT in 2023. But of course not right after Shildt was fired. Get your facts right.
And I never said 13 years was not okay. Please, by all means write an OP about Guillen being manager in 2025 instead of Oli.
Not sure why you are even making this argument.
Im not making an argument for Guillen to manage. I asked why not use him instead. Keep up.
Okay.
We both agree Girardi was talked about on CT in the last 2-3 years, right?
We can agree that JG hasn’t managed in 13 years and JoeG 3.5, right?
And we can both agree that they are neck and neck as far as being formidable managers in their tenure, right?
So why is it weird I chose Girardi?

How about this - you seem to believe that if Joe Girardi was the manager, and had the exact same record as Marmol has this year, that Cardinal fans would be thrilled?
Is that the point are you trying to make?
Or do you even have a point other than “Girardi managed as recently as 2022”?
My point in the OP is that they would look at the output from a bad team and feel good the manager is moving in the right direction.

...and had a 72-75 record compared to the Pythagoreanan 69-78, and doing it with a FO that divested in the team last offseason, Mr. Girardi would be so celebrated on Cards Talk.
"Just give'em a good roster to work with!"
I want Bloom to change managers in 2026. I think we need a fresh approach. But unlike many CTers, I don't think 99% of the issues on the 2025 team are a result of Marmol's mismanagement.
False narrative.
Not one person believes 99% of the issues are a result of Marmot's incompetence.
But that is in no way relevant to the question as to whether he is a good manager.
He is not.
My mistake on the 99%. My attempt at obvious exaggeration clouded the meaning of the OP.

I'd still take either Yorst or Girardi over Marmol. I don't know why this means so much to you.
