Center the deal around Noot+ instead of Donny, and I'd be on board.

What would be said if
MO traded Alcantara and got back JW?

Trading Walker away would be like trading Alcantara for Ozuna originally.
Walker hurts no one and nothing by spending 2026 in AAA regaining his hitting, focus, whatever. His potential is too great to burn when your hand isn’t forced.
Donovan and/or Nootbaar would be fine or Burleson. I don’t really care. They have much less team control and less upside.

JMO,
The only problem I would have in this trade is in the trading of BD. Right now he might be the only viable option we have for 3b assuming NA is off loaded. Doesn’t appear we have anyone on the current roster, outside of maybe BD, or in the minors that can play a consistent and competitive 3b. If BD is that guy then no, I don’t trade him for Alcantara even though I’d have no problem with him in the starting 5.

Walker is one of the worst (if not the worst) players in baseball.
You'd have to include someone else with the trade.
Alcantara won a cy young.
He'll be great again after his tommy john.
He's not that old.
It would be a heck of a get.

Didn't you just agree with ecleme's insane post saying we should trade all our talent for prospects.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑06 Oct 2025 12:28 pmI’m with you on that.
As far as your original proposal, I, like others, think Donovan alone is a bit of an overpay considering they have equal control time remaining and Donovan has the lower salary. I’d probably do Burleson or Noot + Walker/Crooks/whoever (not the few high end prospects we have)….if Alcantara would agree to a year or two extension.
So, which way is the wind blowing today?

I asked if that's what they said their primary goal was.ecleme22 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2025 12:26 pmLook up what “accumulating prospects” means. And let me know what you find…
Is that what they said.
If they did, then so be it.
That's the route they want to take fine.
Then just don't expect the fandom to be rolling back anytime soon.
Re: Would you do this Trade for Sandy Alcantara
No. Cardinals are looking for prospects if they traded these two. Simple as that.

Walker was playing at 23 this year. He should’ve been in AAA.Bully4you wrote: ↑09 Oct 2025 04:46 amDisagree.PadsFS07 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2025 12:59 pm Trading Walker away would be like trading Alcantara for Ozuna originally.

I’m not against getting Alcantara. Walker wouldn’t help get the deal done and could backfire spectacularly.

I never agreed we “should”. I said that I think he was right about what the team “would” do. I thought he was spot on about the approach as it seems right in line with Bloom’s press conference comments.Bully4you wrote: ↑09 Oct 2025 04:48 amDidn't you just agree with ecleme's insane post saying we should trade all our talent for prospects.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑06 Oct 2025 12:28 pmI’m with you on that.

The wind blows the same for me everyday - prospects are lottery tickets and so many bust out, so if the team has a chance to make moves for experience and win now, I’m all for it. With the caveat that I know you can’t trade them all…every team needs to build a foundation through the draft, and when they miss, they should compensate and (over)pay the price in free agency and still put a good product on the field.

Re: Would you do this Trade for Sandy Alcantara
The Marlins will be contending for a WC spot next season and it will take more than Donovan to get him.
Otherwise if I'm the Cardinals it would take me about 5 seconds to make that deal.
I like Donovan but pitchers with Alcantara's ceiling are hard to find.

Re: Would you do this Trade for Sandy Alcantara
What’s insane is trading for a pitcher who will cost 1) prospects and 2) 40million.Bully4you wrote: ↑09 Oct 2025 04:48 amDidn't you just agree with ecleme's insane post saying we should trade all our talent for prospects.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑06 Oct 2025 12:28 pmI’m with you on that.

Oh, and also he’s only a two year rental.
Oh, and also it’s at the beginning of a rebuild.

So add Oli. Done deal.
