There is not a defense for Gray.
Gray has one complete game shutout this year in his other 20 games pitched he has a 4.70 ERA and averaged 5 1/3 IP?
Wainwright could probably come out of retirement and do as good as Gray.

Gray is anemic. When the boy struggles, he surely struggles. It's painful watching him get through 5 anymore.

Gray will be paid $35M next year if on the roster and $30M with $5M buyout option the year after next. If he continues as is he has been Cards may buy him out. So that is really $40M after this year for one more year of Gray.
