I've been on the sign Kyle Tucker (if the Cubs don't extend him) bandwagon basically since he became a Cub. It makes a lot of sense, but I just don't see ownership going after a top FA like Tucker.
We are in an announced reset. There has to be a reason to reset. Once all assets are in place, they can buy. This should be this off season.
As for never making that big splash, well it shows. We saved all this money for a reason. My thoughts it to spend on two big names. If saving the money for any other reason, wrong move.
IF the Dewitt’s ok spending again it’ll be after the labor negotiations. I don’t see big signings this off season. Maybe a vet SP on a one year deal and a BP arm.
The biggest issue is an 80+ owner involved in any critical decisions. Old farts should get out of the way.
Yes they should. Peter Principle.

His son isn’t any better. They should sell the team.

Which is exactly why Bill brought in Bloom and Cerfolio.

He shouldn’t get much credit for doing something he should have done 10 years ago.

Good morning.
Just a signing away.
Team would trade away Walker, Matz, Mik, and Helmsley and outfield will be Tucker Scott and Burleson.
Infield Willy Donovan Winn Nado. Pages at catcher. Gorman and Herrera at DH.
Staff
Gray
Libby
Pallante
Mcg
Young gun.
Closer- maton or granillo.
That completes year two of reset.
I always appreciate your optimism, Dog. On Tucker, I just don’t see the Dewitts spending that kind of Jack. They will tell Bloom to draft and develop the next Kyle Tucker. They want to see what he can do with a $120 million payroll.

We have a decent team in a reset the reset has done exactly as hoped, brought cream to the top. Now the easy part- add a bat or TOR starter. Then the same next off season. Then compete.
It’s a shame for a team to be this close, and owner refuses to spend a little to get over the hump.
Every other Gm would kill to have this roster, and it’s potential with two additions.

If we added tucker and Sandy A. What level would that put us at- Mets Phillies level, or LAD level.

You're like a (Bull) dog w/a bone on getting Tucker aren't you?
IF BDWJr lost his mind and was the top bidder for Tucker and IF they also added Sandy A., then yes the Cardinals would be serious playoff contenders but still lack the talent of the Dodgers if their pitchers are all healthy.

Great answer. Two thoughts- it shows how close we really are, and if we made those moves, we’d be a favorite up til the NLcS.
This is exactly the conversation to have. How close and how far we could go with two adds.
We are as close as we’ve been in years to a really good team.

This team is much, much better than many national media (always wrong about the Cardinals

) and even many in our fan base thought they'd be.
They have talent (strong defense, solid baseball IQ's and the intangible "heart").
With C. Bloom taking over we may finally have the right guy pulling the trigger on trades and FA signings (fingers crossed).
My fear os BDWJr won't give him the same payroll he afforded Mo ($175-180M).
If he doesn't, then he's a fool and it will hamstring what Bloom can do.
Dewitt would be a fool because he'll continue drawing under 20,000 (actual) - 25,000 (sold) and never see 3+ M again.

All facts. Imagine this team plus on 180m. Every Gm out there would love to sit in our seat. Ripe and ready for greatness.
As for Bill. Old people get very paranoid about life after 70 ish. They seem to want to just go with the flow. Not upset any apple carts.
Need someone younger in charge of the money. Zest for life.

Exactly. No good businessman would sign an expensive FA to a long term contract with the present MLB state of affairs.
What a Arenado, Miles, Matz, Fedde add up to not to mention the Goldy 25mil gone this year
That doesn’t buy a Tucker??
Not when you don't know what your revenues are going to be.
Poor BDW….why doesn’t he take his Cap Gain and move on from this terrible business…..

Even if this was true (and I don't believe it is), that assumes those teams will not add at the deadline or in the free agency next season. That's likely not the case (especially with LAD), and when that happens, they will raising the bar even further.

I can’t help that, them raising the bar. Maybe a franchise impossible to emulate. But if I added those two, end of year, would that be enough to compete with Phillie, Mets, and Cubs.
Are we there? Possible. Sure it won’t happen, but to turn this around with a reasonable team like this year, will take moves like this. Otherwise we are stuck in stereo.
