I thought they should of brought him up and sent Barrero down weeks ago. If he can play SS he shouldn't have any trouble playing a corner OF position!

Good catch that I mispelled Bregman.

"He hasn’t played outfield since he was a little kid. On the other hand, in both podcasts I watched, he was asked about his preference on where he likes to play and I can say he does not seem to care. When asked where he feels most comfortable, he says that it’s whichever position he has played the last few games. I can confidently say, without it coming directly from his mouth, that he will play outfield if the Cardinals want him to."

I would venture to say that he'd play a better OF than Burly today.

Saggese is having a solid year at AAA. No one is saying that “he is blocked at the MLB level”, or “he’s got nothing left to prove in AAA”, or “free Thomas Saggese”, or “what’s this kid gotta do?”
Well, I did not specifically any of that stuff you put in quotes. But since you brought it up, yes, he is in fact blocked at the MLB level. If Mozeliak had pulled off the Arenado trade and/or Noot were traded, Saggese gets the call. No doubter, IMO.
Zero question both need to go as quickly as possible.
They are causing huge negative consequences to superior players and are preventing the creation of a more functional roster.

Unless he trades Donovan or Gorman, I doubt Saggese is part of Bloom’s “core” going forward. We have a glut of middle infielders and catchers. I suspect Bloom will deal from that surplus, along with some of the pending free agent pitchers (and Nado) to restock our young talent at pitcher and outfield.

I could not disagree more. In fact, he may prove to be integral part of the future with both of those guys. Gorman, at this point, cannot hit LH pitching. Platoon with Saggese might maximize Gorman. Regarding Donovan, he may prove to RH version of him. Who better to mentor him?

You might be right, but how many middle infielders do you want to carry on the MLB club? JJ is on his way. And I want a real middle of the order bat in LF, so don't start playing middle infielders out there. If only Tyler O'Neill could have stayed healthy.....

I wonder if there comes a point where a trade is necessary in order to clear out these logjams. It's got to be a scenario someone's planned for, right?

A) Who said he had less than average power?
B) So about 20 HRs in 600 PAs… at a step below the MLB? That sounds like average power to me.
Without a lot of research I would speculate that his home run rate is well above average!

At some point, but I think best case next year would have Arenado gone, Gorman as primary 3B, Winn at SS, Wetherholt at 2B, Donovan as the primary LF, and Saggese hopefully holding his own as a super utility player filling in at 2B/SS/3B.

He’s tied for 93rd in home runs this season in AAA with 36 other players including Michael Siani.

He has missed about 25% of the AAA season due to being on the MLB club. Still he is tied for 93rd out of 500 - 700 AAA hitters?

I looked at the wrong leaderboard.

There are 254 hitters in AAA with at least 150 PA and Saggese is tied for 120th in HR with 5.

He has the 6th highest BABIP.

2023: Texas League (AA) Player of the Year, 26 HR, 111 RBI. So 26 of those batted balls were not in play. They left the yard.

No he’s not a slugger but he’s got some pop in that bat.

And finally Saggese called up:

John Denton
@JohnDenton555
The #STLCards announced that catcher/DH Ivan Herrera was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a left hamstring strain.

Infielder Thomas Saggese (#25) has been recalled from Memphis (AAA) and will be active tonight vs. the #Reds.

But it sucks it took losing Ivan for it to happen
