Okay - it looks as though the draft positions can be set after the teams involved are ‘finalized’. I do not know if it can be randomized, as the available options aren’t visible until after finalization.

No worries - this season is going to be a learning process.
I’ve headed up several leagues before, but it’s been almost 10 years… so yeah, some things have changed.

It will definitely be helpful in planning if we know our draft position ahead of time. All of my recent drafts have been randomly assigned, so I’ve become accustomed to quickly shifting/adjusting priorities. Note - everyone will need to do that, no matter how refined their draft strategy may be, draft position known or unknown.

How are invites to the league being distributed?

With 15 teams and 26 spots per team, I think we're drafting fully 50% of all MLB players.

So, given that all ~800 MLB players are on a bell curve of fantasy value, you have like the top 150-200 obvious takes, and a bottom 150-200 obvious "not takes", and a middle 400-500 that, being in the middle of the bell curve, are highly interchangeable.

After the first ~15 rounds, it's going to be like "my choices are, who?" :D
You are correct, sir.

I may free myself of the concept of a 26-man roster, and trim it down to 24. With 15 teams, we’re 114 players deeper into the player pool than the typical 12-team, 24-man rosters would draft. Every year in such a format, I find myself dropping players I do not want to drop as someone comes off of the IL, or in a 1-for-2 type trade. The extra bench spots were a sound solution to that problem. However, when coupled w/ an additional 3 teams… it thins out the herd.

I’m open to any suggestions from those who have already joined the league. We’ll keep this an open discussion until the league is full, and the teams are finalized… which will probably be tomorrow.

The proposed change would keep the position spots as-is, and trim the bench from 5 spots to three.

Yes, this will be a challenging league. I havent done one like that in awhile. I am looking forward to it

I have been fairly successful in the past, but I have a feeling I’m going to get rolled in this one.
I’ve never done over a 12-teamer. I think I’ve been in a 12 team league just twice and have been doing this since mid-90’s lol…this will definitely be quite the challenge
I've played in an 18 team survivor fantasy football league the last two years. That one is murder

My regular pay league is a 12 teamer. I'm only in one other at this point - it's down to 8 teams with expanded rosters and it's an auction draft. So, in baseball, I've done no leagues of this size.

Im used to 4. But the more the merrier. Love prospecting. Hate those that hoard prospects on their bench. He giveth and he taketh. Not used to all those utility spots. Usually had a dedicated corner and a dedicated middle infielder in addition to the 1B, 2B,SS,3B. And 1 or maybe 2 utility spots. More flex this way.
The bench is a little less necessary in this league, because of the pitching slot structure. Their usual format is SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, P. The ideal method of maximizing your innings/performance in that format is typically to use only two or three spots for SP and the rest for relievers… meaning you have to be moving starters on and off of your active roster on a near-daily basis.

That isn’t the case in this league - we’ll all have 5 spots for SP and 5 for RP/P, making those daily moves (mostly) unnecessary. There’s also those 3 utility spots, as noted.

TL:DR - I don’t think any of us will be missing those roster spots if the bench is trimmed to 3.

We just filled up a few minutes ago.

I might consider starting up a post-All Star league, if this one doesn’t make me pull my hair out.

PSA - whoever just joined and named their team “50 Shades of Great” needs to change their team name to their CT screename, as was clearly requested (in bold) in the mass invite.

Indifferent, just means I have one less prospect on the bench

Update - yes, the draft positions can be randomized and set, now that the league is full and finalized.

Positions will be set tonight.

It’s a snake draft - I’d almost rather have your spot than mine. Great position, IMO.

Yeah, that is the slam dunk of all slam dunks.

Not until I'd started running some of my own valuations this afternoon did I realize how far ahead of everybody else Acuna is in this format. 8O
Yes, but he’s DTD with knee soreness. It’s extremely worrisome… wouldn’t want to waste your #1 overall pick on damaged goods. Nor would Jeffy

You know what they say, the most important ability - right after AVG, OPS, HR, SB, RBI, and R - is availability.
You have a plan for pick #390 yet?

If you check the pre-rankings, there’s a surprising number of players below #390… well, that you’ve heard of.

Good luck, keep us posted.
Maybe "pin" the topic so the Board can see what is going on?
