On October 9, 1944, the St. Louis Cardinals clinched their second World Series championship in three years, defeating the crosstown rival Browns 3-1 and establishing themselves as baseball’s dominant wartime franchise.

A look back at the Cardinals' first world championship and the question that's been asked ever since: Was Grover Cleveland Alexander actually drunk?

The biggest moment of Ken Boyer’s career came with his brother Clete just a few feet away, playing third base for the Yankees on the game’s biggest stage.

My own recency bias would lead me to vote for Freese's dinger from 2011, but Boyer's Grand Slam should always be in the conversation of greatest hit in Cardinals history.

It feels like the last thing you would want to do when facing Bob Gibson would be to tick him off. But that's exactly what the Red Sox did before Game 7 of the 1967 World Series.

On this date in 1985, Vince Coleman's season ended when the speedster was caught by an unlikely source — Busch Stadium's automated tarp.

With his mad dash from first base, Enos Slaughter raced home with the winning run of the 1946 World Series and into baseball history.

After he hit two home runs to lift the Cardinals to a 6-2 win in Game 3 of the 1982 World Series, Willie McGee returned to the clubhouse and found himself confronted with something perhaps even more nerve-wracking than anything that could happen on the field – a crowd of reporters surrounding his locker.

This is my favorite thread on CardsTalk.
Remembirds mentions Willie McGee's national coming out party in Game 3 of the '82 WS, as well as Country's Mad Dash at Fenway to win Game 7 and the World Serious for the '46 Cards. This is also the day of winning Game 7 against the Yankees in '64.
Think about that a second. The Ides of October found two game 7s in the days before TV. By 1982 the TV money has made in impact, and an extra round of playoffs had been added, yet the same date found the WS already in game 3, only for 4 games behind, if you will, of the calender pace of the game. Look what's happened since then. Not one, but TWO rounds of playoffs have been added, and the NLCSs have just started. The WS gets pushed more and more into November. And MLB wonders why their postseason TV ratings are so low.
Are More Playoffs Really Good for Revenue?
