Pendleton has to be one of the unluckiest players that ever played. He lost all 5 World Series he played in. Partly because of a missed call in Game 6 1985. Then he gets hurt in Game 7 in the NLCS 2 years later rounding the bases in a blowout game. And can only pinch hit or DH from one side of the plate in the World Series. In 1991, one of his teammates loses track of the ball in the lights running the bases in Game 7 that would have given the Braves the lead. He leaves the Braves to join the Marlins the year the Braves finally get over the hump. Then the Marlins trade him back to the Braves a year before they win their first World Series. And his Braves lose another World Series after they win the first 2 games in NY.

Did Herzog ever say why he set up his 1987 World Series rotation the way he did? Magrane started Game 1. But was passed over for Game 5. Which meant Cox and Tudor pitched Games 5 and 6 on short rest. How many more runs would the team scored in that World Series if Clark and Pendleton weren't hurt?

I think they were down 7-1 in the 2nd inning and won 11-8.

I was at that game. One of the best I ever saw live. Taguchi had an unbelievable game too offensively and defensively.
