Yep, that would work.

Since Gilbert's team control is down to the this year and next, Logan's BTV is down to about +40M.rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Jul 2026 09:05 am You want a real blockbuster w/the M's that fits BOTH teams needs?

A Herrera and Burly duo puts you right there with Gilbert's current value, which will keep sliding down as Logan's control time continues to shrinks.
Cards would have to extend Gilbert in the giant IF the Cards actually considered this, while the Mariners would have to think they won't be able to extend Gilbert. I doubt that's the case, but they sure are letting him get pretty close to being a FA. Have they tried to extend and failed so far?
I'd hate to think what a Gilbert extension would look like.
Sure, this has about the same chance as a meteor wiping out Moscow tonight, but what is CT for?
Btw, Ukraine may not really need that meteor.

A 24 year old OF like Walker vs a 29 year old who is a FA after next year?

Go Ukraine, kick Putin's slimy a z z!
I'd do that deal too!
And agree, they'd have to access Gilbert's interest in inking a L-T deal before I'd make either trade.

It's an interesting proposition. If their service times matched up, I'd be more inclined to consider, but Gilbert's been more of a number 2/3 pitcher than a true ace, and his salary is going to start inching closer and closer to true market value next season. He's making almost 11 million this season and has two more arbitration years to go. Just for a fun comparison: Walker earned more money from a single evening of high-spectacle, gamified batting practice than he's going to be paid by the Cardinals for the entire 2026 season.rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Jul 2026 09:23 amIt would be interesting TLRTraveledLessRoad wrote: ↑24 Jul 2026 09:19 amI wonder who'd say no in that dealrockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Jul 2026 09:05 am You want a real blockbuster w/the M's that fits BOTH teams needs?

Gives the Cardinals that true #1 who could matchup w/any teams #1 in a playoff match while giving the M's the RHed power hitter they crave.
Never happen, just a fun thought exercise.
I would absolutely consider a trade like this if the pitcher coming back was Bryan Woo (free agent after 2030) or George Kirby (free agent after 2029), but I could not in good conscience make that trade for Gilbert.

Would never trade a star position player for a pitcher. Pitchers are always one pitch from losing all value. Prospects yes or decent position player and prospects yes but no one like Walker.

I'd never even consider this fantasy move unless there were assurances from Gilbert's camp that as long as the Dewitt's meet his asking price he'd ink a L-T deal.NotAFathersDay9871 wrote: ↑25 Jul 2026 16:57 pmIt's an interesting proposition. I'd do it for Woo too, probably not for Kirby though.

is a 3 team trade possible?
as in some team with a hitter that seattle wants take prospects from STL and we get hancock?
