Pat Verbeek, GM of the year.
Playing hardball with all that young talent. Shipping out the players and coaches that helped to turn the ship around.
What comes around goes around. Gross team mismanagement.
Zegras is smiling somewhere.

Not sure if you got the chance to listen to McTavish's interview that was posted, but he was asked about Zegras and said something to the effect of being his 'best friend' and how he's happy for how it worked out for him.
I'm hoping the Ducks don't match. Wouldn't that be something? Plus now, they're going to have to offer Gauthier the remaining $17m of their cap space.

And only for 5 years? Lol diabolical
Walks him right to UFA status at age 26, where he can sign an even more monstrous deal. Diabolical is right!
can you negotiate a NMC/NTC in an offer sheet? if so, wonder what that'd be like
Yes. But like all contracts, only for UFA years.
Players become UFAs after 7 years in the league or age 27, whichever comes first. So with 3 years played, he has 4 more RFA years. So only the last year of this 5 year deal could have any sort of trade protection on it. The exact details of the contract (salary/bonus breakdown, clauses etc) aren’t out there yet afaik.

I gotta think Robert Thomas has to be a little bummed at the idea that he could probably get $10-12M AAV if he was a free agent today.
I had the same thought, but based on today’s development, I’d say Thomas would be looking at maybe $15 mil! It will be interesting to see how this plays out with others, Bedard, Makar, Hughes, etc.

maybe those larger contracts Army handed out weren't so dumb after all

He'd get more than that I think but he is not alone. It's always been that way. He took guaranteed money when he could and that was the right choice imk
