Re: Arenado
It’s not hard to figure out what happened he complained about how hard it was to hit in St. Louis several times he gets traded to Arizona and is hitting better.333 .413 .944 at home and an awful .222 .293 .701 on the road. He had mostly warning track power in St. Louis it was in his head. So people that think he would be hitting the same if he had stayed would just be wrong

Re: Arenado
I also think his poor plate discipline caught up with him?Melville wrote: ↑19 May 2026 12:13 pmLast 3 lines are spot on.Cusecards wrote: ↑19 May 2026 09:13 am There’s no question that Arenado’s last two seasons here saw significant drop off.
But I don’t think(and I have zero inside info) he intentionally underperformed.
Actually the opposite:
Declining skills due to age?
Injury?(shoulder)
Failure to adapt his game and change??
Again....just guessing but I don’t see him tanking.
Moody & stubborn??
Yes
Once pitchers saw they didn’t have to throw him strikes you could see the drop off.

Re: Arenado
Arenado is hitting much better with runners in scoring position than he is with the bases empty. He has the biggest difference on the team and the Dbacks have the biggest difference in MLB, a fact I learned today from Jay Jaffe's article on the Padres (link below).
In 79 PAs with the bases empty he's slashed 230/278/378 for an 82 wRC+, but in 48 PAs with RISP his numbers pop to 342/438/711 and 206 wRC+.
You can say SSS for Arenado's PAs but for the team they're 1000 and 400 PAs so they're getting up there.
As I posted upthread, I approved of dealing NA, in fact pushed for him to be traded in 2024, but it would sure be sweet to see his level of hitting performance on this year's Cardinal team. See table in link to see where StL stands, or more often, returns to the dugout.
