Just need to let this breathe a little bit. If you’re playing SS, you can play anywhere on the field. He gets to the ball up the middle which shows good reaction and athleticism, just didn’t come up with it cleanly, it was ruled a hit. Trying to do too much with the throw is where the error occurred and that’s a where a young player learns and grows. Keep playing boys. Clip of the play below.
Christopher Morel’s RBI Infield Base Hit
Kid made a nice play knocking it down. Shoulda put it in his pocket after that. Unless Yadi is running down the first baseline, he had no shot at most ML players. Media needs to low key it on JJ. It's his first spring where he is expected to make the big club and start......Lots of pressure. Let him chill and play baseball.

Apparently played half the game getting 2 plate appearances before being replaced by Weingartner. Stole a base. Made 1 error - his second error in three spring training games.

The question then becomes - something I raised before - why did we have him at shortstop all last season when the only position on the infield where he was guaranteed not to play was shortstop? 2 errors in 3 games at 2B would indicate he should have been at 2B or 3B - anywhere but SS.
He did play 2nd and 3rd (as well as SS) last year in the minors.
The error yesterday was on a backhand play that he knocked down then rushed the throw to try and get thr runner. Burleson also did a poor job of keeping it in front of him. Not a big deal at all.
JJ will be just fine at 2nd. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see him win a GG there. Relax, guy.
Also, it is 2 errors in 2 games that he has played in, not 3 games, lol. Still, he is fine!
60 games at SS. 20 at 2B. Why would they do that when he had zero chance of playing SS in St Louis?
A few reasons:
1.) SS is the toughest position to play. If a player can handle that, they can handle pretty much any of the others.
2.) JJ has played 2B previously in college, so the position isn't/wasn't foreign to him.
3.) If Winn has a day off, JJ likely slides over. Ot heaven forbid, Winn goes down with an injury, JJ is still sharp there.
JJ will be great at 2B. Nothing to worry about Scott!!
He made two errors in 2 half games thus far. MLB is not where you learn to play a position. That's what the minor leagues are for. It was asinine to have at SS last season.

I agree with the majority on here:
Good stop by JJ, just shouldn't have attempted a throw. He deserved the error, but I'm not super concerned.
Burleson should have stopped that ball.
Honestly, Burleson is a poor 1Bman. Not because of this play, but because he never makes a tough play. Contreras was shockingly really good at 1B last year and we will likely miss his defense.
Maybe Herrera or Walker can play 1B?
Walker has to hit first, though.

He isn't learning to play 2nd Base! He has played it a lot throughout his career. The fact that you are letting 2 errors in early spring make you think he is just some guy who is learning how to play the position for the first time is pretty comical. JJ is a polished college player and one of the best young players in professional baseball. Let's be serious, guy!
FYI.....even if he had NEVER played 2B, any talented SS would be able to transition to 2B in his sleep! But, that's not the case with JJ.
