I'd insert him in our 3 on 3 OT today. (Half serious)

I'd say his recent performance before the tournament nudged his timeline up a bit.

Maybe this tournament is moving it even more.

Unbelievable.
It’s pretty insane how the haters can’t have an open mind. It was very clear by the talking heads that jiricek was a top 10 pick if he was healthy. The blues did the boom or bust. The kid has excelled every step of the way so far. I only watched the Canada game but he was the most talked about on his team. Hopefully we hit a couple home runs with Lindstein and jiricek and can extend broberg. If that happens. It’s looks like those 3 with LM have a pretty bright future for the note.

Agreed, CIWYW. But if you look at Harry's post on the last page, clearly the Blues knew what they were getting and were more than happy to have him drop. As has been said a million times, their scouting department is second to none.

Yeah Harry....where are those folks?

The one's who always know dead certain.....before any one.
“We were excited when we heard (the Detroit Red Wings select forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygård) before us at No. 15,” Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said. “We had our eyes set on the guy we got. He’s got range, skating ability. He makes a good first pass. We think he’s a legitimate top-four defenseman, and they’re hard to find.”
Didn’t Army seem to imply at some point that they would’ve taken him over Buium and they were starting to sweat about how it would look if that option came to pass?

I don’t know that it was ever confirmed it was Buium, but they didn’t name the player and most assumed it was Buium.

absolutely slick move! The kid is proven me wrong. I was the first to admit I thought it was going to be a bad pick but as long as he stays healthy the sky is the limit.

Jiricek making early claim for top D
The internet was abuzz with Jiricek’s highlight reel overtime winner. While it was a great high-skill play to secure a big win for the Czechs over Finland, Jiricek has been a nightly standout so far. He’s been a hard, pain-in-the-(donkey) competitor for opponents who has broken up a ton of plays while making plenty of his own offensively. The towering right shot looks like a future top-four NHL D for the Blues and is the early leader for the best defenseman in this tournament.

I’m willing to admit that I possibly jumped the gun on Jiricek to this point.

Head and knee injuries were a concern as well as a slight frame. So I don’t feel my initial concern was unwarranted.

That being said, I won’t root against the kid just because I like being correct, and I’m really glad that he’s improving at the rate he is thus far. Especially after last season and getting back into the game after a long time out. The organization need him to pan out. Badly.

Jiricek just scored..4-2 Czechia
Wow!! Can't wait for him to get here...whenever that may be.
He will be in the Blues top 4 opening night 2026
doubtful IMO. has a long way to go defensively
Well Faulk will likely be moved so that means Army is gonna have to acquire someone in the offseason, otherwise we are looking at Mailloux and Kessel to fill those spots. An offseason signing or trade possibly blocks Jiricek for a couple of years, depending on how well Mailloux progresses.
Personally I’d rather see Jircek here. We drafted him for a reason, and he’s developing nicely. I’m a firm believer in throwing them into the fire and learning. If he needs time in the AHL, his play or training camp will dictate that.
I'd play Jiricek next season too. He can't possibly be worse than Mailloux has been this season.

3v3 or not, I’d prefer he focused on defense because if 17 loses the puck it’s a 2v0 the other direction.

Sick goal, sure. But I’d prefer he stayed at the blueline

Crazy thought here, but I bet his team preferred that he scored the game winning goal in OT.

Worked out this time. Against a better team they may not be so lucky

Did you not just oppose his selection in the draft but thought it was fool hardy?

So many posters on here were really ragging on this pick.

And yes, there's a long way to go to know how this ends up.

The thing is, he wasn't positioned there on accident. He saw space (IQ), took advantage of a defensive lapse and capitalized. I don't think he was taking an unnecessary risk. He identified an opportunity then absolutely dominated.
