I’m stuck here. If we don’t play Herrera here, he catches, and that just won’t work. Too much stress on the staff.
Herrera to left may work.
NA will get traded, but assuming he doesn’t, NG will see time at 1b, DH and some 2b.
Ok. If. Nado is gone, you’re saying Gorman to third. I don’t like that. If he’s not traded, you say Gorman will see some first. Why first.

Good morning.
No longer speculating. Willy is long gone. Who takes first.
Burleson. Player without a home. Bet he makes a big move to first.
Herrera. He ain’t a catcher. I’d like to see him try left.
Gorman. Third base ain’t it.
Three candidates.
Throw Walker in there too.
Long ago I penciled Walker at first. Big target. Former third baseman. Should have the glove. Very interesting.
HIs arm is nice in an outfield of noodle arms. His bat hasn't played as an outfielder, nor would it at first. I'm not saying he couldn't pull it off defensively, but it wouldn't exactly play to his strengths, and he can do things at other positions that other 1B candidates can't do.

I. Hererra, the best hitter on the team at least until JJW arrives, has to be in the lineup somewhere.
If he could even throw out 20% of the runners and call a good game, then I'd love for the catcher move to work.
Likely it won't.
So it's DH......1st Base (I think they give him a claw in STing and some work there) especially if Burly's struggles vs LHP returns in 2026.
I liked the LF idea (it was mine), but he did look uncomfortable out there.
Either way, the bat plays and Oli will find a spot for him.

Tour points are good. Especially his value at other positions verse normal first baseman.

Do you not like it because you think Gorman is a bad third baseman?
I know you do.
Do you really think the Cards will give Gorman a long leash if he’s an absolute butcher at 3B?
Of course not.
All of the angst about Gorman at 3b is a nothing burger. The org will know half way through ST if Gorman can handle the position…

Gorman had a stretch of games at 3rd base last year that was ugly, that’s what everyone remembers. However, he did settle down afterwards and looked a lot better there at the end of the season. As you say, by the end of Spring Training, they should be able to better predict what kind of a fielder he’ll be there.
What’s going to dictate whether he plays there or not will be more based on his bat. Will he finally make the necessary adjustments and STICK to them in order to stay in the lineup at all. That’s the bigger question!

Cant believe I’ve got a bias for a player. Maybe I guess. I think at third so far, not even close. Why continue.
If he’s is forced into a position, why not DH. I’m ok with him hitting, as I think given a position/DH to play regularly will help his hitting.
Yea. Third aint it. you know that by know.

Ha. I’m guilty for sure. Just his defense. I tell you this though, I’d gladly stand corrected if he can man and field the position. If that happens, the team over all, may show the benefits.

I’m not sure IH could handle first.
Seems many first baseman were lefty. That glove covers the hole, but makes the line a back hand play. Thoughts.
The left-hand throw first to second is easier.
Also, I thought they quit on IH in Left too soon. Obviously my opinion.
And left-handed throw to home is harder. As for the throw to second from a RH, it's all about the footwork/being on the right line. Big Mac got the yips throwing to 2nd because he had feet of lead.

Worth noting that in 410 innings at 3B, Gorman did not commit a single fielding error (actually statistically better than N/A).
All 6 errors were of the throwing variety, and as you correctly noted those were primarily during the brief adjustment period in moving over from 2B.
Also worth noting that Gorman recorded a putout in every 13.2 innings (12.4 for N/A); recorded an assist in every 4.7 innings (4.3 for N/A), and a DP in every 37.3 innings (40.0 for N/A).
In other words, other than the initial and corrected issues with throws, Gorman was pretty much equally proficient at recording defensive outs as N/A was.
As you correctly noted - it will be about the bat.

As a former catcher, picking short hops in the dirt should help. No problem with arm on infield.
What do you think of Herrera in left.
On the short hops not sure the same. Catcher is in blocking position or should be. 1st base is relying totally on glove.
Left field sure but when he played outfield he did not look natural to me. But he could be adequate probably.
So far, we say he can’t catch, cant play first, or left. Is Herrera our first true blue DH.
Might be. I don’t think he is a catcher and I’m concerned about push to move him back there. Hopefully I’m proved wrong.
You won't be.
Pitchers have kicked him out the position each of the past 2 seasons - and they are the best authority of all.

Sure...anyone else who doesn't or hasn't played 1b?
Laughable to believe you can just plug in anyone who hasn't shown a competence to play anywhere in the field, at 1b.
Looking at JW (who says he should even be on the roster?!) and Ivan.
1b touches the ball way too much to take this so lightly.
There is a long history of successfully moving poor fielding, good hitting catchers to 1B.
That, LF, or DH is Herrera's future.
