Re: Trouble in Toronto
Lost to Nashville tonight. Wonder how much longer they’ll let this linger before a major change is made.
I actually kind of like Toronto but it is crazy fun to watch them implode. Like a car accident - you can’t look away.

Have to think Treliving has been in contact with Deboer maybe. Sure feels like Berube is getting axed soon.

I love Berube and for his sake, I hope he gets fired and walks away with all of that money before that ridiculous team gives him a stroke!Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 09:07 am Have to think Treliving has been in contact with Deboer maybe. Sure feels like Berube is getting axed soon.

I agree as well, I always thought that Philly or NJ was going to get him, Toronto was not good choice. Losing Marner was a huge mistake I feel, but he will get another shot at coaching if he gets fired.

Re: Trouble in Toronto
I don't see Berube getting canned.... yet.
Treliving will probably let this season play out because firing the coach he hired less than 2 years into his contract will make Tre look worse.
I just don't see a new coach making a difference this year, but the Leafs might try it anyway and prove me wrong.
As mentioned earlier Treliving inherited a uniquely constructed team, but he has done nothing to improve the team and he depleted their assets with 2 horrible TDL deals last March.
What he gave up for a #5 d-man (Carlo) and a 4C (Laughton) was laughable.
The Leafs cupboard is now near bare and their roster is a mess with aging players & gaping holes everywhere.
Does Treliving have the nads to deal Matthews, Nylander, and Rielly?
Yes, they all have NMC's but I would think they would love to leave that toxic fishbowl.
Matthews days as a 50-60 goal scorer are long gone. He's never going to lead the Leafs anywhere. What is his trade value?
It's already his 10th year in the league. Time to move on.
From an outsider's perspective Matthews seems hated up there anyway.
I would also think Tavares will be approached near the TDL to see if he wants to be traded to a contender.
There are a handful of good teams that really need 2C help to be legit threats to win the Cup.
Who is Treliving's boss? A corporate hack?
Don't be surprised to hear Army to TO rumors again this summer.
I don't think Army would take the job as their President & Director of Hockey Ops because they need a rebuild.

Pretty sure they are gonna move Rielly for sure and Tavares would be an excellent add for Minnesota at the deadline.
Berube is also as good as gone….he wants out.

Some Toronto fans beginning to collect torches and pitchforks thinking Treliving can get more for Matthews than Allvin received for Hughes. Such a car wreck.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 12:23 pm Pretty sure they are gonna move Rielly for sure and Tavares would be an excellent add for Minnesota at the deadline.

Im betting Matthews is damaged goods, not to mention Charmin soft. Id love to hear what they think he’s worth.IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 11:37 amSome Toronto fans beginning to collect torches and pitchforks thinking Treliving can get more for Matthews than Allvin received for Hughes. Re: Trouble in Toronto
Matthews owes a portion of past paychecks to Marner.
Re: Trouble in Toronto
I'm not a big Marner fan but to think you can lose him with the kind of numbers he put up and replace that with...nothing...was never going to go well.
Re: Trouble in Toronto
They’ve just been through so much emotionally over the past several years too. The pressures of Toronto are so intense. I think last year took a lot out of them. They should have beat the Panthers imo.
Re: Trouble in Toronto
I was at Game 3 and that was the crossroads. The Leafs are up 2-0 in the series and I think 2-0 in the game...and the Panthers came back to win in OT on a Marchand goal. The Leafs never recovered mentally from that. I am sure the pressure doesn't help at all. When a game/series starts to turn like that, all the players - subconsciously - are hearing the Toronto media and fans simultaneously screaming.

Re: Trouble in Toronto
The fans and the media are unrelenting and by and large irrational. Terrible combination. Never understood why Berube went there. He had options.
