That’s an iffy 50-50 proposition at best, and will keep the team low for another 3-5 years. At least. The cards organization -unless they’re able to rebuild it - has proven they CDS.woofy25 wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 19:13 pmThey’re going to have to develop themCardinals4Life wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 08:54 amOr better yet....go get those star players!woofy25 wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 08:00 am Because he is precisely not a player to build around. He is a complementary piece to star caliber players. The cardinals don’t have the necessary 2-3 star players to build around. If they had them, then Donovan is a no brainer extension. They don’t, so they need to consider dealing him.
Why trade Donovan?

You either trade Nado or Donovan. Not both.

Unfortunately thats the reality. Cash in enough chips for more lottery tickets hoping you get more quality at a reasonable price later. I agree, but unfortunately at this point, he's not going to try to win with Donovan.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 20:05 pmThe only reason that the team won’t be competitive is because DeWitt won’t let them be! He’s too fond of his money and just doesn’t have the fire to do what’s needed. Trading away players like Donovan only proves the point!RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 17:43 pm Because you have him only until the end of 2027 and lets face it, this team will not be competitive for at least 2 years. If you don't plan on making him a core player, you will lose him with little or nothing in return.
Donnie is starting to make a few million dollars, so he has to go. Let’s bring in some hopeful players who don’t cost much yet!
The Cardinals have become the Rays, Pirates, and all the other low budget teams.

The cards aren’t trading BD because of money. They are trading him because of the return.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 20:05 pmThe only reason that the team won’t be competitive is because DeWitt won’t let them be! Re: Why trade Donovan?
Donovan is the type of player and leader the club should keep.
Trade Arenado, Nootbaar, Pages and Fermin
C) Herrara / Crooks / Bernal eventually
1B) Contreras
2B) Wetherholt
3B) Donovan
SS) Winn
Thats a great infield.
LF) Burleson
CF) Scott II
RF) Walker
DH) Gorman
