EVERY team and EVERY player in the league can utilize this league wide rule.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 19:53 pmIt is a huge change in rules when it provides him and his team such a big advantage over other teams
exactly - it isn't unfair when it is available to all!makesnosense wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 19:59 pmEVERY team and EVERY player in the league can utilize this league wide rule.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 19:53 pmIt is a huge change in rules when it provides him and his team such a big advantage over other teams

How can they utilize it? Does every team have a player like ohtani? If not then they can’t can they?makesnosense wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 19:59 pmEVERY team and EVERY player in the league can utilize this league wide rule.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 19:53 pmIt is a huge change in rules when it provides him and his team such a big advantage over other teams
Any tram can remove their starting pitcher and allow him to remain in the game as DH. Or any other position. The only thing that makes Ohtani unique is his ability to be the number one HR threat.Melville wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:11 pmNo, they can't.makesnosense wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 19:59 pmEVERY team and EVERY player in the league can utilize this league wide rule.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 19:53 pmIt is a huge change in rules when it provides him and his team such a big advantage over other teams
And you know that.
Name ONE other team who can remove a starting pitcher - but allow him to remain in the game as its leadoff hitter and #1 HR threat.
The rule was passed specifically to allow Ohtani to be taken out of a game - and yet remain in a game.
No other player in MLB history has been gifted with anything remotely similar.
No, what makes him unique is that a rule was put in place to allow him to be removed from a game as a starting pitcher and yet remain in the game as his team's #1 hitter.JohnnyMO wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:23 pmAny tram can remove their starting pitcher and allow him to remain in the game as DH. well, if the league did let Ricky do that they would also allow every team to do it - are you on the spectrum ?Melville wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:33 pmNo, what makes him unique is that a rule was put in place to allow him to be removed from a game as a starting pitcher and yet remain in the game as his team's #1 hitter.JohnnyMO wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:23 pmAny tram can remove their starting pitcher and allow him to remain in the game as DH. There isn't one.
The issue is not Ohtani's ability.
The issue is MLB creating a rule specifically designed and tailored to his ability in a very detailed way clearly intended to benefit only him and the team for which he plays.
Consider this.
Ricky Henderson was a unique talent as well.
Did MLB allow him to be removed from a game as an outfielder - yet return later as a pinch-runner?
That is exactly what MLB is doing with Ohtani.
Removed as a pitcher.
But return as a hitter the next time through the batting order.
It corrupts the game and taints every contest the Dodgers play.
If a team has someone that they want to pitch and hit in the same game then they can utilize this rule.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:21 pmHow can they utilize it? In theory that is true in reality it isn't. Name the best hitting pitchers you can think of and there is always someone on the bench that is a better hitter than them. If there isn't it is an extremely small club. Shown by the fact that no other team has been able to take advantage of this rule ever.makesnosense wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:57 pmIf a team has someone that they want to pitch and hit in the same game then they can utilize this rule.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:21 pmHow can they utilize it? He's not "returning" to the game. He's just changing from pitcher to DH. And a majority of the 30 owners agreed to the rule change. Why should you care if they don't? Fans want to see that one-of-a-kind guy play. And the more he plays, the better. It was a dumb rule that banned it in the first place.Melville wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:33 pmNo, what makes him unique is that a rule was put in place to allow him to be removed from a game as a starting pitcher and yet remain in the game as his team's #1 hitter.JohnnyMO wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:23 pmAny tram can remove their starting pitcher and allow him to remain in the game as DH. Again - this is anger the Dodgers have a superior ultra rare player. I’m not angry at the dodgers for having him and it’s a terrible use of the quote no one is angry at ohtani for being a special player they aren’t mad at the game they just think it’s pathetic the people in charge changed the rules of baseball specifically to give one player and his team an advantage over other teams and That’s pathetic. Out of 30 teams that rule benefits one player and one team that’s messed up to create a rule that gives one team and one player an advantage over 29 other teamsJohnnyMO wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 21:40 pmAgain - this is anger the Dodgers have a superior ultra rare player.
