True, but if the Cardinals were to trade Burleson. Do they have a hitter, like him, in place to replace his consistent offensive production?

consistent offensive production doesn't come with consistent winning. We are entering a rebuild. We need consistent starting pitching. Than we can get consistent offensive production elsewhere. Hopefully some that comes with above average defense.
I really like Burleson. Although on a playoff team he fits better as a #5 or #6 hitter.Shady wrote: ↑20 Sep 2025 22:08 pm"Than we can get consistent offensive production elsewhere". Not so sure about that.2ninr wrote: ↑20 Sep 2025 17:22 pmHis

I've seen a suggestion of trading him for a high upside AA player. Is that really prudent trading a proven hitter like Burleson for an unproven minor leaguer? Burleson is not going anywhere but playing for the St. Louis Cardinals for quite a few seasons in the future. He's dreadfully slow and adds little value on the basepaths or in the field. Find a contender who needs a LH bat and trade him for a higher upside athletic AA outfielder, or pitcher. This team isn't contending next year anyway.
Burly's trade value may never be higher, get max value for him this offseason.
I'm a fan and he's had a good season, but no one on this current major league roster should be off limits if the return justifies dealing them.
"I'd 100% deal him if the return justifies it." Please give some players that you would trade Burleson for. Keeping it realistic.rockondlouie wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025 09:07 amNoShady wrote: ↑20 Sep 2025 14:58 pmSo you are now a "fan" of Burleson after slighting him for a long time? I've always been a fan, just never went overboard like you did.
And like many I've always correctly stated that he's a platoon player who shouldn't be allowed to face LHP (career: .233 .266 .331 .596).
As a stand alone, he could bring back a solid prospect (AA starting pitcher or an OFer) or a #3/4 major league starter (IMO).
At 27 yrs old in a few months w/three yrs of control his trade value would never be higher than it will be this offseason.
I'd 100% deal him if the return justifies it.
I don't have the info major league front offices do as to who is available so it's foolish to just throw out names.Shady wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025 11:44 am"I'd 100% deal him if the return justifies it." Bloom likes guys who put the bat on the ball and that's one of Bumbles great strengths (square-up rate top 6%, low whiff and K rate).
Your asking other posters for specific, "realistic" trade proposals is about as rich as it gets.Shady wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025 11:44 am"I'd 100% deal him if the return justifies it."
