Winn probably wants to gut it out since the team has not been officially eliminated from the playoffs.
I’ll be surprised if he isn’t shut down early in a week or so.
Winn in the article said exactly that .. he said I want to keep playing while we still have a chance at the playoffs . I was thinking the same thing. Once it is apparent that mathematically they don't have a shot , he may elect to stay out.
Also as someone said, he probably wants to finish to be in line for Gold Glove . He has great numbers and probably covets getting that award .
I know that the Cards medical staff has come into question in the past.
So hopefully....when they say he can’t further injure it they are accurate.
It seems beyond belief to say it doesnt habe risk for getting worse. Beaides fact that if same thing causing him to partially tear it happened again when it is already partially torn thus lending to a full tear,
You also have to factor that its limiting his mobility and he is moving sifferently to compensate for the pain and the weakness in the knee. Compensating can lend to risk of pther injuries since you are at increased for straining other muscles ligaments etc or not being able to land proper footwork as well
Like many have said.
Better safe than sorry. I just understand why Winn wants to be out there!

This organization has become so stupid. The player might want to preserve a gold glove but this is about TEAM, you idiots. What if he tears an ACL because of a misstep caused by pain from the meniscus tear. Please local media, blast this decision to play him.

The tear could get worse with strenuous activity.
He should be shut down and have it repaired.
The doctor said he can’t make it worse by playing on it. You think he can. I believe the doctors.
The doctors may be right that he can’t make it worse by playing. It is, however, certain that he can’t make it better by doing so. Risk versus reward here seems pretty clear.
Still he might make the rest of himself stronger by playing thru.
Just like Libby is getting stretched out in innings, maybe Winn needs to get stronger and more durable by playing 150 games instead of 130 this year and maybe that results in more stamina after the ASB in 2026.

The team's orhopedic team has MRI done initially with follow-up MRI's a few times since the initial issue. It was initially diagnosed it was a small meniscus tear and subsequent MRI's were not showing anything more serious. The doctors determined that playing thru this created a very small risk of any further damage and told Winn having the surgery after this month would not be promblematic.
Of course, this is more than one doctors opinion. I am not about to question the medical teams evaluation and decisions . I did stay at a Holliday inn Express a few times but that does not make me a surgeon with that expertise.
If the doctors felt that continued playing was a significant risk of further problems , they would tell Winn that . A slight tear in meniscus is much different than tears to a ligament. Ligaments connecct the bones (like tibia to the femur ). Those tears usually require immediate attention.
Meniscus tears refer to a cartilage ..like a cushioning tissue in the knee joint

Reasonable take.

Masyn Winn has a slight meniscus tear that will require surgery . For several months, the MRI has shown the slight tear and has had follow-up MRI's to make sure the situation isn't worsening. Winn will continue playing with rest days as needed (just like last night he was scratched late for the game ).
The medical staff has assured him he cannot make the situation worse by playing on it. There is a short recuperation time after the procedure and he will be good to go for the 2026 season.
For those who can read this, here is the story

PS My own wife had slight tear as well and she was full healed within a month.
Which major league team did she play for?
