Carefully scouty, you just insinuated the chosen one could be tradeable.
That's because "I hate him!"

No that's supposedly me for daring to add him in one of my fantasy trade ideas!
Can't live with out that 98 OPS+
Don't forget career: 19 stolen bases/11 times caught stealing

Oh shildt, here comes the abuse for both of us.

JJ Wetherholt in 16 AAA games so far:

19 runs scored
21 hits
5 doubles
6 HR’s
12 RBI’s
9 BB’s

And oh by the way he started at 3rd today
The future is taking shape.
Gorman 3b.
Winn SS.
Wetherholt 2B.
Donovan LF.
Herrera fighting Walker for RF.
Burleson / Contreras 1b and DH.
CF TBD, with Scott getting a competitor for the job.
Easy.
Obvious.
Correct.
I agree with all except I'm only about 50/50 on Gorman at 3rd. The severe inconsistency scares me. Hopefully he gets let loose the remainder of this season and alleviates my concerns.

How many think he needs considerable more time at AAA?
Please chime in
He does not need more time at AAA.
But there is zero downside to him being there until September.
STL has more infielders that they can deploy currently so there is no need to dilute the number of PA's by cutting the pie into smaller pieces right now.
When he arrives, he will be playing every day.
Doing that today accomplishes nothing.
Yes, it does.
It grants him experience for his inevitable start next year.
Dopey reply.
Diluting limited number of PA's with no practical reason for doing so accomplishes nothing.
September is soon enough.
The team has other questions to answer than Wetherholt alone.
Unless injuries reduce the logjam, he is right where he belongs.
I already retracted the statement Mel.
I'd like to see the kid sooner, rather than later for my own selfish reasons.
Okay, I said it because I am honest.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
All good.
Retraction is never needed from you.
You are always a quality poster.

sikeston bulldog2 wrote: 04 Aug 2025 05:33 am I’ve been squawking about him at third, Winn at short, Donovan at second as the best fielding and hitting infield in baseball.

Now Herrera in left, need a stud bat and a stud Ace in the reset.

You don’t waste a stud like JJ at second, the infield dumping grounds, for a potential George Brett.
If JJ has the arm for 3B, and he likely does, since he has primarily played SS, the hot corner would be a fit for him.

As for 2B being the "dumping grounds" of the infield, I think Joe Morgan, Lou Whitaker, Roberto Alomar, Craig Biggio, Ryne Sandberg, Chase Utley, Bobby Grich, Jackie Robinson, Red Schoendienst, Charlie Gehringer, and Rogers Hornsby would beg to differ with you.
Ha I stand corrected. Poor choice of words. What I meant was, a player from either short or third, moving to second based on ease or age.

The pure second baseman, too include Tommy, are special.
High end bats have more value at 2B since it lengthens an overall lineup.
Strategically, he serves the needs of the organization at 2b far more than at 3b.

I’m guessing they will try him out at 3rd obviously to see if he can handle it but also to see if they can keep Donny at 2B long term.
According to defensive metrics 3B is Donovan’s best defensive position, so I’m not sure why they wouldn’t just try him there and have Wetherholt at 2B. Wetherholt has said he’s most comfortable at 2B and SS.
Donovan's arm is not suitable fro 3b on a daily basis.

I'd bring him up as soon as he passes that "rookie" date, keeps his eligibility for 2026.
A fair position.

Why I first floated the idea of dealing Winn a few weeks ago.

If he can land a cost controlled #2 starter for Winn, then I'd do it in a heart beat.

Bloom has no stake in any of these players, he'll trade anyone of them if it brings back what this team needs.

Let him get use to his new teammates (that is the one's who will be here in 2026 after the Bloom roster purge), learn the stadium, St. Louis, get a place to live, big league travel, other stadiums and the press!

I'm a HUGE believer in doing this w/real prospects who are going to be starters the following season.

It's a great way for them to get their feet wet and prepped for STing next year.

Bloom is a high risk / high reward gambler.
Unlike Mo, he is willing to bet big and think outside the box.
It would be very much in character for him to trade Winn and install Wetherholt's bat at SS.
As to that being a good idea in an entirely different conversation.

Could Winn land enough to really make that worth it? JJ can play 3rd as well or 2nd. IF Winn can land a couple of stud young pitchers maybe thats a move but are we overrating him a bit in this scenario

Can JJ play 3b? For a full season? He's a SS. Hasn't played 3b since 2021...and like 7 innings. The numbers were not good
