He worked hard at hitting, Goldfan, and ended up hitting well enough to make the Hall, aligned with his superb defense. He ended up with 2,460 hits.
Please stay of topic, not something that happened 45 years ago.
One example, albeit 45 years old, lends no credit. And he was a pro not a prospect when he came here.

I’m muffed.
There are many recent examples of the same type of thing, dawg. Players simply don’t hit their stride the first several years in the big show. Both you and Red know that. They hit their stride when they get into their prime productive years.
What sir, are you talking about. Of course they hit their stride in their productive years. That’s a given. But their stride is measured by performance, and that’s where the similarities end.
Why call it a AAA team when you have younger guys who haven’t hit their major league stride yet? You wouldn’t do that, dawg. Red’s pushing the “I want it now” button.
How long do they wait for them to hit their stride until they retire? This is Nootbaars 5th year and he proved again he cant stay healthy, its walkers third year he has a ,604 OPS and has sucked the past the two years. Gorman showing he sucks at third and in his fourth year and has a .709 OPS and under a .700 OPS last season. Burly and Donovan are complimentary players. Theres not one player on the team and say that is the guy to build a team around
Preach it Oz.
How long did it take at the ML level for McGee, Coleman, Lankford, Pujols, Carp, to prove they could be above avg players?? This frontier league tryout session is for FO types who have NO CLUE what a winner looks like
They had no clue in 2006, 2011, and 2013?
Again, living in the past.
Maybe I just recognize and appreciate tradition and legacy more than you do, Red. I guess you’re part of the “what have you done for me lately” crowd. Thought that was for younger posters, but guess not.
What the hell are you talking about?
You have no patience, Red. You want it NOW. But you simply don’t know how to achieve it. You think players who don’t produce right away are “AAA players”. It simply doesn’t work that way. It takes them time to gel. And you don’t follow the minors where most of our future players will come from.

Pro sports is a “what have you done for me lately” business. Sometimes folks get too old for such intense endeavors and should consider less competitive activities.

Apparently , if you have seen some World Series Championships in your lifetime (I've seen 5)... you've enjoyed this franchise's 'recent success'...so, when they are currently floundering, you can fall back to your past...too bad for any new fans in the 15 years or so...be patient, DeWitt really cares and we have all these future HOFers in the minors...it's a big [fork] you to the fanbase.

Amazing how things have changed, as remember back when a previous cardinal manager said something like ....
"MLB is not for development"

Unfortunately, it is now with the skyrocketing salaries. Salary inflation has forced the small market teams to bring up guys from AAA perhaps a little too soon.

But the fact remains, that a number of posters on this thread won’t acknowledge that the majority of guys who are promoted to the majors don’t come up with both guns blazing and produce at a top level right away. And calling them a AAA player during that adjustment period is naive.

1. It’s an internet meme, usually with a picture of Michael Jordan.
2. Isn’t that kind of your position though? YOU have seen championships, so who cares if they win more? If you’re a kid who wants to see one, that’s kind of their problem, isn’t it?

I think it would be great for a kid to see one, and experience the same elation I felt in the 60s, 80s, 2006, and 2011. Hope it happens sooner than later.

Of course you think it would. You’re only human. But you don’t REALLY care if they’re aggressive about winning one, because again, you’ve seen yours, right? Hey, your kids have probably seen one as well, right? So who REALLY cares if they just become the Pirates or Reds?

Memories are important. I took my 10 year old son to game 7 of the 1982 World Series. We went into the field with a group of fans after the last out and stood at home plate and on the mound. Doesn’t get much better than that.

I’m glad that happened for you. I wish it could happen for me, but Mr. Dewitt isn’t as interested in trying to make it happen as Mr. Busch was.

Everybody wins 60 and loses 60. Fun game to watch though.
