Looking at the stats of the 6 guys coming into the system, there’s some really interesting potential there. Some were as high as 3rd round draft picks.

Thank you, Statman, very interesting.

C+. They probably missed an opportunity to get real value for Romero. Given Arenado's sub 500 OPS since the middle of June, he is untradeable. Chaim may not have wanted MO to trade any of the other guys such as Nootbar as it gives him a full deck to shape next year's roster during the offseason when there is more time to get a deal done that addresses the exact needs. I would have given it a higher grade, except for the failure to trade Romero. He is a free agent after 2026 and 2026 is not a window of contention.
It became clearer after this trade deadline that the Cards are really aiming at 2028 as the window of contention. They picked up two RH power bats, of whom, Baez is likely not ML ready until 2028, the year after Arenado's contract expires. Power hitters may or may not develop. But, they added something they were missing. The pitchers other than the AAA pitcher they acquired today are also a couple years out. No high end guys, but perhaps a swingman and a high leverage bullpen piece. Given what we gave up that is really good. Somehow I think if they had actively shopped Romero, he could have fetched a top 5-6 prospect from a team plus a lower level guy. That is a miss since Romero will not help a Cardinal team become a winning team during his remaining tenure here. His value will be lower next year.

My favorite acquistion is Nate Dohm.
All of them are longshots to reach MLB though.

Grade - Incomplete
He moved three pitchers, which wouldn't have been re-signed. Return is undecided until proven.
As always, I expected more to improve the current team.

C. They got what they could get for just selling rental relievers. I thought they should have traded some controllable players to deal with the clunky roster (too many LHH and positional redundancies) and realized more significant returns. They missed on that.

Re: Its All Over. What's Your Trade Deadline Grade?
Agreed he should at minimum move additional pitching whose co tract is up after this year. Very little reason to hold onto these players. Jojo eg
Trying sell Nado with a large contract along with injuries and a 600+ OPS was a complete waste of time. His inability let that go and continue to build or “rearchitect” is ridiculous.
Would have liked to see him move positional players as well but that’s not as easy so I’ll lighten up there.
Not moving on from Fedde at the beginning of the year when his stock would never be higher was beyond idiotic so this is just a continuation from that mess.

There you go again acting like you know so much more than others. By the way, our future and Mr. DeWitt's are about gone. And of all people Mr. DeWitt should know by the number of fans buying tickets more should have been done to protect the future interest of fans.

I don’t know more than others, Red. I’m just expressing an opinion as other posters do. But it’s pretty obvious that they’re bulking up the minor leagues and positioning things pretty well for Bloom to have flexibility. Don’t you think?OldRed wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 07:51 amThere you go again acting like you know so much more than others. By the way, our future and Mr. DeWitt's are about gone. So, how many games will you attend this year? I've been to one and gave tickets to another away. Please stop with thinking the future is going to be so great when it is years away at the best and like I said many of us will never see it, including Mr. DeWitt.Cranny wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 07:57 amI don’t know more than others, Red. Like I said the grade is an Incomplete.
Re: Its All Over. What's Your Trade Deadline Grade?
That’s fair. Some of the prospects they picked up may not gel for several years. But several of them like Blaze Jordan could be helpful soon. He has an .820 OPS at AAA right now. Bloom knows him well.OldRed wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 08:13 amSo, how many games will you attend this year? I've been to one and gave tickets to another away. B+
Three expiring contracts and added some prospects that may actually have a shot at making it to St Louis.
