Cards have only one All-Star so they should trade him.

Sounds like a Cards talk forum post.

Of course.
That has been true for 3 years.

Astros rumor: https://sports.yahoo.com/article/cardin ... 12986.html

With both 2026 & 2027 years remaining , Donovan is cost-controlled for two more years (whatever he gets in arbitration ).
For those who are of the philosophy, trade a player while he is at his highest value prior to losing him his free agency year , Donnie fits that right now.
He garnered All Star honors plus was the only player garnering 2 hits . He has earned a Gold Glove and is versatile other than 2nd base too .
3rd highest batting average.
For Donovan currently , there would be a king's ransom for a player his caliber. Bloom could get quite the haul . Some MLB Radio talk said Bloom more likely since he has JJ Wetherholt to play 2nd base in 2026 and beyond

So what are you thinking ? If Donovan isn't traded in a surprise move at the deadline, do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Yes or No

Important note : The question did NOT ask if YOU would trade Donovan this winter but rather if you feel Bloom would do so.
You may say YES Bloom will but I hope he does not . No, Bloom will not but I hope he does .
Honestly, I have no idea what Bloom will do. I do know that the Cardinals have publicly stated many times that they envision Donovan as part of the core and as guy who can be the new leader in the clubhouse. Seems like that would be a guy they would hold onto. So based on that, I'd say Bloom will not be trading Donovan.

Carp4Cy wrote: 17 Jul 2025 15:40 pm Option A - trade Donovan. AS with mid level salary for 2 more years of control
Option B - trade JJW - MLB ready by spring, high potential, very high trade value
Option C - trade Winn - Proven MLB SS. 4 years control remaining, unsure of realizable trade value in a market where a lot of top teams already have an elite SS around the same age
Option D - Trade Saggese - probably just filler in a larger trade

what do you do? None of them have that 100 RBI Rolen/Glaus type Moto bat we need at 3b and LF to get our offense to the next level. And 2b/SS is only 2 starting spots.
You trade the old one who has the best haul... Hurdy Gurdy

If I have to give a yes or no answer then my answer is yes.

The roster is infield heavy and needs to be fixed. JW is on the way and he has to play. Most of us would prefer that Arenado is the one traded instead but we might not be able to find a trade partner. If not Donovan or Arenado then Nootbar and you put Donovan in LF full time.

Nope

JMO, but I see Donny getting a four-five year extension.

Team leader, all-star, gold glove winner you team up w/JJW in 2026 and build around those two.

I'd bet C. Bloom's loves what Donny brings to the team and has no interest in dealing him for some prospect/suspect(s).

If he is everything you say he is…..and he may be..

He will be in demand in the free agent market.

He’s not that far from that option….I don’t see an extension

Donovan is the heart of the team, and our most consistent player.
You build around, not through him.
Looking forward to seeing he and JJ on the infield together.
I love Donovan, but he is not a player you build a championship team around. He is a player who is an integral complementary piece of a championship team. We need the pillar or foundational piece of a championship team. We do not currently have that piece.

Some of its timing too.

The guy is going to be a FA in the not so distant future.

For the record, I’ve been bringing up the idea of trading him for a while.

He's coming Basil...............JJW

But Donny is an all-star, gold glove winner and team leader, that's a piece you can build around (not THE PIECE by "a" piece).

He’s a valuable trade chip..

How they handle this deadline will speak volumes about their vision of the future..
