he's having a bad year. Roby is hurt, Saggese can't hit, and Burleson is battling grazing rights with the grounds crew at Busch IIIAn Old Friend wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 13:45 pmThought this had to be some AI magic photoshop wizardry until I saw Shady start his own thread confirming Doyle's signing.![]()
I always wondered this too. The last couple years we draft so ultra conservative after the first round or so. Aren’t we leaving something on the table if we don’t take anybody that we need to overpay with all that money saved?Futuregm2 wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 11:23 amFrom the sounds of Ryan Mitchell’s interview that I saw yesterday, I don’t think we’ll have to go much overslot for Mitchell. He said his goal was at least $1 million after taxes and slot value of the pick was $1.72 million. He may be a bit above it, but not by too much.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 11:21 amThat's a lot of money to throw at that OF we took after Doyle. I would imagine he would be an above slot type of fella?Futuregm2 wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 10:28 am Doyle signs for $7.25 million per Jim Callis

So close to $885,000ish under slot.
Sorry, can't remember names. I've been moving homes this week. I think I probably fried a few braincells in this heat.
I’m actually wondering where all of the under slot money will go to because we took a lot of college players and I don’t remember many of them being the kinds of guys we’d need to go a lot over slot to sign.
Why is that? Depending on the terms of the contract, he is not necessarily subject to tax in MO or in the case you mentioned CA. If they structured it right, it should be TN where he resides, which has no state income tax on wages. After he starts playing, that changes.
Wow, $2.4 million overslot on one deal?! Kid hit jackpot!craviduce wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 16:00 pm Holy Cow...the Braves took their BIG Savings from the first 3 picks of their draft and gave it all to their 4th and 5th round picks....2 over slot deals by a WHOPPING $3.1million.

He was projected to go to the angels with pick 2. I don’t know what that pick projected to pay out, just figured it would be close to the same as the 5th pick after California taxes. I don’t know details about California taxes nor do I have a degree in law, but I do know that some athletes choose not to play in cali because of the severe tax it. You might be right though.ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 15:12 pmWhy is that? Depending on the terms of the contract, he is not necessarily subject to tax in MO or in the case you mentioned CA. If you think about it, that gives schools in FL, TX and TN a huge recruiting advantage because any athlete that gets a sign on bonus from those schools gets a huge tax break, not to mention state income tax free NIL money...
Once they start playing, the players are subject to tax in the states where they play, all of them. The signing bonuses are based on where they reside as of the time they sign the contract, unless the bonus is subject to conditions of playing to achieve it, which it should not be. Of course player during their playing careers are subjecting themselves to much higher taxes if they play in CA, NY, WI, etc. The difference is significant enough it should change the contract dollars. But, that first sign on bonus for players living in FL, TX and TN is state income tax free...Jobafish wrote: ↑18 Jul 2025 00:22 amHe was projected to go to the angels with pick 2.
