Heyward hit .293 .359 .439 .797 in his one STL season and won the 3rd of his 5 gold gloves. He was by far the Cards best player in 2015.

Heyward has hit .243 .320 .387 .707 since then. Not so great but he delivered one incredible speech in 2016 to inspire a team in the 3rd largest city in the USA to their only WS title in the last 118 years. If that is not worth $1B I don't know what is.

To this day, the Cub scouts still add a speech and debate rating to their scouting reports. Maybe the Cubs scouts do, too.

lol Hayward in his “big” cardinals season was a right fielder who hit 13 HR drove in 60 and scored 79 r and people were drooling saying sign that man to 200 million that is why war can be way overrating for players. He was a good glove shortstop putting up those numbers yea maybe but a right fielder no way. And his big speech is also way overrated do people think only on the teams that win people are giving inspiring speeches and on the teams that lose they don’t? People give speeches all the time you just only hear about the ones when they win no one on the rangers in 2011 is going to say yea Hamilton gave a hell of a speech after they got beat. And if his speech rallied them to win why didn’t he give speeches when they made other post seasons which lead them to winning?

Uh... The speech narrative was all sarcasm.

I'm with you. Glad he was not signed. Sadly we just used the money up on other equally bad contracts. Nevertheless, he was the Card best player in 2015 and they had the best record in MLB in 2015.

Carp

Heyward

Heyward
CH303
PO 290
A 10

Carp 4.8WAR
Heyward 7WAR

Now we all know that Carp wasn’t Arenado at 3b, but it is a much more difficult position than RF, with many more chances producing many more outs.
Carps offense was appreciably better and yet theres a HUGE disparity in the WAR #. If you weren’t aware of the giant holes in WAR you’d think Heyward outhit Carp by an incredible margin and Heyward must’ve saved at least as many games with his glove that Carp lost…….

Mo really SUCKS. The trio of TO, Bader, and Carlson roaming the green OF of Busch for years to come……breaking young to middle aged ladies hearts as they pranced from dugout to field…..
Bader provided good value while with the Cards, then brought us Montgomery, who then brought us Roby, Saggese and King. Not bad.

Jury still out on Roby and Saggese, while promising...Carlson and ONeill looked promising too
