Re: Minor League Updates (7/11) ~ Cards System
Koperniak drives home Herrera and then Bryan Torres (looking good these days) hits a ball off oppo way for a double off the wall.
Torres is 28 yrs old but having a great year = .322 with .900 OPS. Another 2b. Lloyd a SF to score Koperniak - 4 to 0 good guys.
Let's get Mathews a W.

Torres is older but he had a very solid year last year also

Walker up with bases loaded and no one out and weakly pops up. Argh.
Bernal follows him up with a bloop double that scores two - chalk poofed up about a foot.
4-0 Springfield

Re: Minor League Updates (7/11) ~ Cards System
Mathews gets through the 4th, albeit with trouble. 4-0 still. Mathews' fastball, which ticked up last year above 95, has mostly stayed 93mph with one 95 I've seen.
In Springfield, after Bernal's double, they score another on a WP. Chase Davis is fast approaching the Mendoza line and looked awful (again), striking out by a large margin.
I tried to pick up for Duce, but I'm out of here now. Cards' game sux and these two games look like they're going well.

I forgot - Rincon also has 4 1/3 shutout innings for Springfield, although he just gave up two singles. It would be great to see Rincon and Mathews do well. Another hit and it's 5-1 Birds.
Herrera looks good as usual, hitting .429. I jinxed him as he popped out.

Yep. Won the Texas League Batting Title. Dude can hit. Can play 2B and OF. I think he has to be looked at by the organization as a potential player and be given a legitimate chance.
Unfortunately he doesn't come with the prospect pedigree so it seems he has an uphill climb. That's a shame.

He could probably play 2B and get on base for a non-contender for a few years.

And no thump. Even if his contact quality carried into the majors, he'd be like 5th percentile exit velocity. He's a slappy singles hitter with plate discipline... an 8 or 9 hole hitter on a team not trying to compete.MIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 22:06 pmFive feet seven and one sixty. I don't care what size he is, the guy can hit. He is a career. 300+ hitter in the minors leagues in over 1400 PA. He just won a AA batting title and plays the game the right way - hard nosed. An Old Friend wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 22:01 pmHe is small and weak.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 21:13 pmYep. Would take a Bryan Torres "type" over a Nolan Gorman type anyway of the week. And who gives a flip about exit velocity. Give me the guys that can actually get hits in a game.An Old Friend wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 22:15 pmAnd no thump. So why do you think he was playing in independent leagues the last few years?Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 22:19 pmI don't care what size he is, the guy can hit. Just because he wasn't a blue chip 1st rounder, he isn't given the same shot and isn't looked upon as anybody.
Imagine if Jose Altuve would've just gone home when told to at a tryout camp in Venezuela? Sometimes guys can play.

That guy has power, and the Cardinals need power in the OF, not a slap hitter. And second base is crowded with Donovan, Gorman and next year JJ. They don't need a second baseman.
