Ah those pesky facts. And it shows if you know what you are watching.
Oh Stormin' Norman has definitely been better. It would be wonderful it he could find some way to hit .250 with pop and not KKKKK as much and he is trending in the right direction. He does best when he uses the whole field. He is average at best on D, and perhaps if he were just installed at 3rd he might improve somewhat, and range is not as much of a factor there. But he is not the next Pujols, or some magic unicorn. He is an average defender, .220 power hitting third baseman. He is pretty mediocre at second. I am definitely rooting for him. If he cuts down on the K's, uses the whole field, and simply tries to hit dingers in the right situation, and develops a good two strike approach and plate discipline when needed.... then he would be a lot better.
We shall see. I doubt he is dealt anytime soon.
It is hard to get dealt when you are not good. Who would him? He isn’t playing for any contender. He could get dealt for another over rated, under performing player on a bad team, but how does that help.
Indeed. He and JW aren't going anywhere unless they are given away for some low level prospect. The good thing is they don't cost much. When they have to get paid they will be gone unless they suddenly step it up.

Will his reach that ceiling?
Time will tell.
I would be surprised if he comes within a 100 HRs of Chase Utley.
You are not alone. Gorman has a "ceiling" which keeps dropping, and since his future is going to be as a third baseman or DH, Melville's predictions for him as a second baseman are fast becoming unattainable.

I hope he can improve his consistency. As of now it is looking like a guy that can hit your 25hr, but he's going to be an absolute black hole every other month.

If he can even just limit how bad his slumps are he becomes extremely valuable.

I don't think anyone in the Cardinal's lineup has put together any stats worth bragging about during the Pittsburgh series.

What he winds up being is hard to predict. But he is clearly more relaxed and trying to improve his peripheral numbers. Which he is doing. He's the best power prospect we have. I would be shocked if he's traded.

That will be a bad day when Gorman takes over at 3rd having a sub .700 mediocre defensive third baseman will not be good for the team

Not ideal for sure if he continues to struggle.

But he does have the power bat you need at 3rd base so let's hope he doesn't.

JMO but J.J. or Donny aren't the type of hitters you want at a power position (1st/3rd).

J.J. needs to play 2nd base (or hopefully C. Bloom gets creative and turns him into a CF'er! :D ), Donny LF unless J.J. makes the move to CF.

He has a .730 OPS in almost 1400 career plate appearances had .721 ops or less in 3 of his four seasons a sub .700 OPS last season and this season. A full season of him playing everyday will be brutal

Could be for sure.

But if it happens (and I'm not saying for sure it will), then let's hope the 27 HR/.805 OPS Gorman reappears.

He’s been pretty bad the past 14 games .189 .636 OPS looks like he had his usual few and far between good streak where people think he’s figured it out then turns back into pumpkin
