I agree with this. I think Saggese can play.

I'm curious if he would end up being a better option than either or both Walker and Gorman.

Everyone needs to be platooned a bit more, IMO.

I can see him as a regular at either 3B or in LF.

You may very well be right on the utility player eval. Can I ask you what you thought the ceiling was for the following 2 guys before they got the chance to play every day: Matt Carpenter and Brendan Donovan? As I recall, both guys looked like utility players. Sometimes, you just never know.

Yes, he's having a good year. Plate discipline is much improved. BABIP is incredibly high so that's skewing the slash line significantly, and he's popping the ball up too much.

I wouldn't yet be seduced by the slash line.

Probably but there’s just some flags still there.

He has a .514 BABIP in June… which is obviously absurd.

Maybe he’s just finding holes in the defense.

If this org was smart they already woulda been giving him OF reps so that he can be a Donovan-like super-ute guy and not just one more MI who is blocked at the MLB level. But it's never too late to start.
Agree. There is far more opportunity for him as a RH batter in the St. Louis OF if he can transition to left field. Seems to me that he could easily handle the move, given the proper time to learn the position.

Right now, he is blocked at SS by Winn, 2B by Donovan and Gorman, 3B by Arenado and Gorman - plus JJ Wetherholt will soon be competing with him for these positions. He has played over 500 games as a professional, all on the infield, why not give him some instruction and playing time at the easier position of LF?
Wouldnt it just be easier to have donovan play lf and him 2b though instead of having to teach him outfield. Granted increasing versatility can never hurt.
Yes, of course.
Absolutely right.
The CORRECT plan for 2026 and beyond is as obvious as sunrise.
Trade Lars the Human Sush-baar as quickly as humanly possible.
Trade N/A ever faster.
Gorman to 3b.
Donovan to LF.
Wetherholt takes over 2b next season.
Saggese is the RH hitting utility guy at ss/3b/2b.
Easy.
Obvious.
Correct.

The useless Jose Barrero is J.A.G. and a waste of a roster spot.

Saggese can play multiple positions and any competent manager (ok, let's Oli out) could easily find him three starts a week plus some PHing opportunities.
I totally disagree Rock. We already have a game like yesterday where both Gorman and Walker were on the bench. If you put Saggese on the roster instead of Barrero it becomes an even bigger problem. There simply is no PT for him right now outside of like the very rare off day for Winn. With a JAG like Barrero it’s no problem, for a young kid with upside like Saggese that’s an issue.

Very good points. Very much makes sense.

Tony Gwynn had a career .341 BABIP and a career high .389 in 1994.

Reigning 3-consecutive batting titles Luis Arraez has a career .332 BABIP and has incredibly struck out just 5 times in 2025... perhaps the most elite bat control in the majors. His career high single season BABIP is .362

But neither hold a candle to Thomas Saggese's ability to find holes... do I have that right? :D

Saggese is having a solid year at AAA. No one is saying that “he is blocked at the MLB level”, or “he’s got nothing left to prove in AAA”, or “free Thomas Saggese”, or “what’s this kid gotta do?”

Well, I did not specifically any of that stuff you put in quotes. But since you brought it up, yes, he is in fact blocked at the MLB level. If Mozeliak had pulled off the Arenado trade and/or Noot were traded, Saggese gets the call. No doubter, IMO.
