If JWalk can’t figure this stuff out, where would he rank on the biggest bust list?
Lindemann, Aybar, Ankiel(P), Geronimo Pena, Rasmus, Carlson, To name a few that come to mind.
I don’t recall many being more hyped than Walker. Taveras maybe, but that’s a different story.
Heck, same thread could be made about Gorman
Anthony Reyes and Alex Reyes were pretty big bust. If I remember correctly, Anthony Reyes was more highly regarded than Wainwright.
If Walker doesn’t figure it out I’d say he’s got to be near the top of the list though.
Alex agree 100% Anthony I can see also but man I will give him a free pass for the 8 inning 2 run start agsinst the tigers for the World Series. I would add Alan benes though
That start by Anthony Reyes in the World Series made me have even higher expectations for him. Alan Benes is a good one too. I viewed him as more of a disappointment than a bust. Looking at his numbers though, yeah I guess he does belong in the bust category. He had 1 pretty good year but that was it.

giving up on (trading) Jerry Reuss and Andy vanSlyke come to mind. Keith Hernandez (cocaine?) to the Mets for Neil Allen.

After the 06 World Series, they should’ve traded Anthony Reyes. His value was never higher after the gem pitched in that series.

He was a bust for me I guess because I was young and had visions of him and Andy being like the Dean brothers and winning the cardinals a World Series

Inasmuch as Walker Buehler was the very next pick, Nick Plummer should be added to the list. The promising career of Alex Reyes was derailed by injuries, so I’m not sure “bust” is a fair description. But he was definitely a huge disappointment.
Injuries definitely factor into whether someone’s a bust. Plus, he came back from those injuries and still wasn’t that good.
I suppose it depends on how one defines “bust”. Imo, it’s more applicable to a very highly touted prospect who never lives up to his promise due to reasons unrelated to injuries. In other words a player who was simply overrated by the “experts” or maybe lacked the drive and work habits necessary to succeed at the highest level. I believe that Reyes’ failures were largely traceable to injuries or their aftermath. But I understand your point and difference of opinion.
By the way, for those old enough to recall the exhilarating rise and deflating fall of Von McDaniel nearly 70 years ago, and for those too young as well, here is an interesting article about the Cardinal phenom.

Just fyi, Anthony Reyes became a fireman.

Chad Hutchinson.
This one stings. He was a brutal bust for two of my teams, Cardinals and Cowboys.

Allen Watson, Rob Kaminsky, Paul DeJong, Luis Alicea, Griffin Roberts.
Side answer Kyle Mclellan, did ok for us other than costing Waino a 20-win season and a Cy Young Award.

Well, he was their number 1 pitching prospect who just had a pitching performance of a lifetime in one of the most important games. Young cost controlled pitcher with #1 or #2 potential. I don’t know why you’d trade that away.
