This is where cranny is going wrong BDog

He wants attendance to come back FIRST, then BDWJr will up payroll.

Business doesn't work that way.

You have to spend first and build up the product, then the customers will come.

Give Cardinals fans a quality on field product (re: players), a competent POBO plus Field Manager and you'll draw 3+M.

Pretty simple, can't believe they can't see it.
How much revenue will there be if there’s a strike?
None as per the revenue you speak of. The strike is an industry risk that needs no planning for 1.5 years out. There is already a chapter in the Cardinals Way that addresses strikes- It’s titled Strikes. Go figure.
Top notch free agents now want multi-year contracts. Would you spend big money right now on big, multi-year contracts?
No. I’m in a three phase/year reset. I buy my first stud this coming off season. I buy two more off season 2026. I compete 2027.
What do you do if Walker and Gorman come on strong, Herrera continues to bang, Noot has a great year, Donovan continues to lead, and Winn is solid?

C - Pages and Pozo (Crooks and Bernal coming)
1B - Contreras for several more years
2B - Donovan as possible All Star
3B - Arenado for several more years / Saggese
LF - Nootbaar
CF - Scott
RF - Walker
DH - Herrera

Where are you going to put your “studs”, SB?

One is a third baseman. After Nado we have nada. One is a league top pitcher. One is an outfielder. That means one of Donovan Scott or Walker moves, unless they tea me a fourth OF position.

So, is this thru free agency? The Cards have always been adverse to signing a player to a long term free agent contract until they know how he is with teammates, fans, manager, coaches, front office, and in the community. And would you sign a stud to a mega contract with a possible strike looming? No good businessmen would do that.

You are beginning to bicker with me. I’m easy. I told you my plan. It’s just that- a plan. I remain flexible.

If they never signed a free agent for the reasons you say then what’s the point. That stuff has zero impact in your free agent world today. Money.

So you want to move your company forward but you’re already pulling back; for an event that might not happen, and if it does, all 30 teams in your industry are finally at an even starting point. Same boat. No advantage.

Not bickering, SB. Just stating a fact that I heard BDW say onetime. What long term contracts have worked out with FAs from outside? Leake? Fowler?
Cecil? My guess is that they’ll stay with the model of
trading for a 1-2 year rental, and extend him if he not only produces, but fits in.

Quite fair the assessment. Many to most long term free agents don’t work because your paying for past performance. You are correct.
