4 straight Multi-hit games in a row for JJ, MDT....coming on strong, indeed. Not too shabby for the 22 year old.

Seriously, I love it when a young player struggles, then figures it out. Always good for their development.

I can definitely see this kid in Memphis by July. Such a beautiful swing!

Very few players never face adversity so it's good he has it now and learns to be internally tough. I mean there are a few guys who seem to never have it. Pujols never seemed to have a prolonged slump. A-Rod and Griffey Jr vaulting to the show at 19. But these are all freaks of nature. :D

I'm hoping JJ plays well all year and gets a Sept taste of the show. Or maybe (fingers crossed) I get to watch him in AZ Fall ball.

Maybe it's a cliche, but there's almost an art to learning how to work your way out of a slump. In my 60 years of watching Cardinal baseball, Pujols is the only player who never needed to do this. Truly, the machine. A close second was Ted Simmons. All he did was hit line drives and he rarely (if ever) went into a prolonged slump. Of course, my memory isn't what it once was, so there is that.

I'm confident the plan is to fast-track JJ. I could see him in Memphis by July and St Louis in September. Dependent upon the various moves the Cardinals could make, I could see him at third, SS, second, LF, or even CF. We'll see how creative Bloom wants to be.

Good times coming.

Your memory is excellent. I also remembered Simba as being very consistent, and looked it up on his game logs - and the stats back it up. In his prime Cardinal seasons from 1971-80, he never had a hitless streak of more than 5 consecutive games, and he only had 3 of those streaks. Remarkable!! What a hitter he was, and I am so glad that he was finally enshrined in the HOF, where he absolutely belongs!

I too am thilled he is a HOF player....long overdue.

and here's the thing about Simmons. If he went 5 games without a hit, it's not like he was striking out! I'll bet he was simply hitting frozen ropes right at people. I've never watched a hitter so consistently hit line drives. I'm guessing Musial did, but he was before my time.

Maybe Wetherholt will be Texas League MVP at 22 like Thomas Saggese was at 21.

Coming through the minors, here number of innings Saggese has played at different positions -

2B - 1,624 innings
SS - 928 2/3 innings
3B - 923 2/3 innings

So he’s actually played more innings on the left side of the infield than at 2B. Interesting.

Saggese has had some decent power production in the past. Not sure if it is enough for a starting MLB 3B. He would definitely fit a utility role.
