Of course you use Helsley at home, in the ninth inning of a tie game.

Especially since it was their 2-3-4 hitters that includes a guy named Trout.

I said it last night.
I'm saying it again tonight.
Makes zero sense strategically to use your best strikeout pitcher in the 9th when you know that if there is a 10th inning the opposition with start with a runner in scoring position - which is when the strikeouts will be needed.
It is one thing to make such a silly mistake.
It is quite another to repeat it the very next game.
The Marmot just isn't very bright.
The Angels using Jansen in the 9th was stupider IMO.

Every manager in baseball uses their closer in the 9th in a tie game when they are the home team. If that's an Oli blunder, then that's an every manager blunder.
Then it's time for some manager to think outside the box and adapt to a recent rule change. Bring your STRIKEOUT guy into the 10th rather than the 9th because doing so lowers the chance on the guy from 2nd scoring.
That is EXACTLY the point.
The rules are dramatically different in extra innings than in the 9th.
Which means a manager must look at his roster and adjust how he manages those innings based on the personnel he has available.
There is no logical defense of refusing to use your highest strikeout reliever in the precise situation which most requires a strikeout.
This is not even a close call.
Yeah, everybody used to use land lines, too, because they were more secure and were cheaper or whatever. Anybody want to go back? With the gift runner now in play, Tony LaRussa's strategy of yesteryear is not necessarily the best one anymore.

No-brainer

I bash Oli when it's called for, this wasn't a mistake either night.

Thank you!
Although....according to the OP the home team has an “overwhelming” chance to get to the bottom of the ninth tied! LOL
Of course he never did address WHO was batting in the top of the ninth which he won’t because it destroys his argument.
Nice to know that it doesn’t matter who pitches the top of the ninth. Save your closer for an inning that may not happen!
I knew the OP was a childish narcissistic hypocrite but now add imbecile to that list!
LMFAO
Go Cards!

Yea, you can't let Trout beat you in the 9th. If he's going to beat me, he's going to beat my best (Helsley)

3 extra innings. 8 runs. 5 non ghost runner runs. That’s awful

Helsley did give up a hit in the 9th Monday. Had that been the top of the 10th, the runner scores. If they never get to extra innings and lose without Helsley ever entering the game, the same callers would be on here complaining about THAT…

If Rycroft or Fernandez pitches to their best hitters in the ninth and got scored on ME-ville would wet himself.
Not an Oli fan but no manager saves their closer for top of tenth.
ME-ville>imbecile
