Yes, yes he does. That being the case, he’s not a redundancy as Koperniak is. I’d have no problem if they traded Donovan, Nootbaar, or Burleson to make room for Koperniak. Siani isn’t blocking him. They are. Fermin wouldn’t play much in STL. Better he be getting regular AB’s in Memphis. He’s the #2 SS, right now. He’s not the backup. Donovan is. If Winn misses an extended time Fermin would be recalled.
You have a bit of a point with Burley. With Noot or Donovan,
they well get a lot of the starts as long as they are healthy.
I would challenge that the Cardinals don't need a third CF. That a third CF is more redundant
than a guy who could provide some cOF type offense and easily be in a rotation out there.
I'd say it a wash since both hit LH but then 1 doesn't hit. That having 2 backup 1B is actually
taking away the backup more athletic multiple position player.
Nootbaar is a CF like Ryan Ludwick was a CF.

Bourjos (Cardinal yrs):

76 OPS+
Sinai’s numbers are a very small sample size. It’s really not fair to lump in the handful of AB’s he had in 2023 and with the Reds. His numbers greatly improved in the 2nd half last year. Regardless, Siani brings things to the team that Nootbaar, Donovan, Burleson and Koperniak do not. If Koperniak hit right handed, he’d probably be on the team.
You're not seriously going to keep defending this stiff at the plate are you Red?
Siani's lucky to be in MLB.

On a team with lots of high end hitters Siani would be a decent 5th OFer bench pinch runner. Sadly that team isn't what STL is. STL is desperate for offense from any source and Koperniak over Siani seems a no brainer to me. I am baffled what the decision here is unless it is to keep Koperniak sharp playing every day until he gets called to replace the first injury (or if Walker needs another visit to AAA).

That’s the only justification I can think of because he has nothing left to prove in AAA.

Hardly accurate....
Ludwick played 12 seasons and patrolled CF in a grand total of 47 games.
In 4 seasons Nootbaar has been in CF 109 games.
Nice try, but please try again.

Let's see, a 27yo lefty who is average/good hitter at a non-premium position and who doesn't bring much to the table defensively. He breaks out and ups his OPS to .880 for a season and now we are going to whine about him not being on the team? I think I'm fine with him gong down, he's not really a prospect. His bat would need to force the issue for me, which its not there yet. And we dont need another lefty

What does he have to do to not force the issue? He hit .300 with an .880 OPS last year. He’s been above .800 in OPS every season except for one, which was .799. He’s been very solid hitter throughout the minors.
Btw, he’s a solid defensive player.

You're right he may fail. MLB can figure it out vs not getting the chance to fail.
That non-premium position has been a hole for way more than a minute in St. Louis.
Easily could have a rotation in that OF.
His LHB is being supplanted by a far lesser LHB. He's always been over a .800 OPS in full seasons.
Someone needs to explain why his age matters. He can't put himself on the roster.
A 5-7 year span of production is great. This would seem to matter more to Matt since
it is his career. 10 years in one city isn't much of a thing. That's for the stars and the cities
that are able to lock in those stars. Albert may have left at age 32 regardless of when brought up.

How does one great improve to a .570 OPS?

Too funny, which now causes a bump to help keep this OP on page 1. Well done.
Wonder how old August Busch's wife was when Harry was rumored to ...................... Carey down the tunnel.
Do hope we see Koperniak soon, very soon. And just to repeat what others have already pointed out, even though he's a LH bat, he hits LHP very well and plays solid OF defense.

Gussie was married 4 times. Hard to tell who he was married to when he was let go after the 1969 season. I believe the rumors turned out to be about Gussie's daughter-in-law.

Not be confused with Harry banging his wife. Which cost him his job.
